Would a DAB aerial receive FM too?
My FM aerial (looks like it's off another car and was hidden under the headlining) has finally given up the ghost after getting worse and worse over the year (could only get 1 local station).

I'm looking at getting a new stereo at some point in the future and hopefully that will have DAB in some fashion (as standard or add-on).

So, my question is this; until I get that stereo, i'd still like to get normal radio. Would fitting a DAB aerial also allow me to receive FM stations on my current (non-DAB) stereo? Or would a mixed-frequency aerial be a negative compromise?

Cheers

No.

You can get combined FM/DAB aerials though, we have one on the 90, it has both outputs/connectors. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

Try dabonwheels.co.uk

I bought new DAB head unit and then bought DAB ariel from these guys. It's combined DAB and FM (two connections plus power connection)

I got a bee sting type and roof mounted, fantastic reception, even when I unscrew the mast

I think it was around 65 quid

Yep, did debate that, but think I want one with a screen and has satnav built-in etc.

Sorry i meant you can get a box to make the FM Aerial be the receiving aerial for DAB, so not requiring a 2nd antenna - i appreciate it looked like i was talking about the head unit...that's a personal thing, i probably would change the head unit (or at least be tempted if there wasnt a reason to keep it) Mike

With regards to this thread, i am running my kenwood dab radio through my standard telescopic aerial with amazing results, as recommended to do by my local car audio store.

Mine too, use standard aerial, they fitted a power splitter. Apparently because defender aerial is so simp,e this works.

Find it works really well and all standard from outside, nothing stuck to Windows and no second aerial.

I have a dab head unit and replaced the aerial for this

http://caraudiosecurity.com/hal2-external-body-mount-dab-antenna

It works great for Dab and FM

Oh and fits in the existing aerial hole Russell
