Fuel Treatment being punted by Land Rover Dealer
My sister's 2013 defender is booked in for its second service at a Land Rover retailer. This is being offered, what do you make of it? My initial thoughts were

1. How can you prove it has not improved your mpg.
2. The "protection plan" mostly covers engine parts that would be under warranty anyway.
3. What exactly are they doing for £70? Is it just adding a litre of "stuff" to the fuel tank?

Here's the text from the email:

Many thanks for choosing xxxxxxLand Rover xxxxxx for your booking on xx/xx/15.

At xxxxxx Land Rover we have started offering a new fuel treatment which will give you more MPG GUARANTEED or your money back! (for the fuel treatment).

Land rover basically are selling what people are buying

People use redex and other brands ro clean the fuel system. A fuel additive. Some of these additives can be used in oil and intake too.

This product http://seafoam.co.uk/ is quite raved about and I'm yet to try.

Make of it what you will but 70 quid for what is likely a fuel and oil additive priced at around 6 quid in any auto shop.

Unless the process is different in any way ill keep not going to land rover for any work 😃

My service bill from Hunters in Norwich included £3.58 for “BATTERY - ADDIT” (I thought they were sealed), £2.49 for SCREEN WASH (c'mon, it was full) and £12.90 for a litre of oil that was found stuffed in the back. To add insult to injury, I'd supplied my own Castrol synthetic oil for the engine oil change, the canister they'd foisted me off with was Shell non-synthetic.

All because I'd forgotten to specify my usual NO FLUIDS OR ADDITIVES. Be very careful next time…

Yes, out of warranty, my truck now goes to an indie for servicing.

Bold claims on the list.......!!
So if any of them go pop on your list, does that mean that if you have the "treatment" and return with a knackered turbo they will warrant it...? Like hell they will.

Just a way of making an extra buck, they know most people will just pay up thinking their land rover is now in top top running order, and what can possibly go wrong!

I agree some additives can help for sure, but some are simply "snake oil"

But to go with claims like that, bit of a joke.
Fluids and consumables are the biggest money spinner in the motor trade.

Best to just buy it at a fraction of the price from you local factor.
