My clonking at the front seems to have up sticks after replacing all the front end suspension....
And now resides in the rear!! .....lord give me strength! Replaced the A frame ball joint and it seemed to make a significant improvement albeit it didn't quite seem 100% sorted, however now the entire rear end seems loose so i'm on a mission now to replace all the bushes. Just wondering what age / distance youd typically expect before needing to replace them. Are any of the components more difficult to replace than the A frame ball joint / fulcrum? Cheers |

I know mine is a 90 but everything on the back of mine is original factory and 18 years old and has spent its entire life on sheep farms being abused. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

If there's any strength to be dished out it should be to the long-suffering forum members that have been dished up false hopes more than once along with marathon sessions of 'not much wrong at all really!' Remember this?

I think the finger of blame probably needs to be pointed to myself this time...... would appear the A frame fulcrum is loose. so either I didn't tighten the two bolts sufficiently or there's some kind of wear going on with the A frame arms? anyway it's in at the dealers for a few days now for warranty work and then it'll be out with the mechano set to try and resolve 
saw a rather nicely polished 110 utility while I was there with what appeared to be recaro, full length rach, alive type 18" wheels, fox shocks etc.

I admire your resolve, determination and sheer tenacity of sticking with what only can be described as 'One Hell of a Lemon.' Either that or you need to consider changing your psychiatrist as he's obviously not making any progress with what ails you! you been chatting with my wife....she's suggested I go else where to! ?
on the plus side......knocking at the front is sorted, hand brake is sorted and loads of other stuff. I reckon once the rear is sorted we're job done.....I believe the issues with the rear (and don't ask me how) has been the source of not just knocking but somehow the clutch gear change ie when it's seemed like there's no progression with the clutch....just on/off feeling? anyhow if it's just new bushes all round at the rear then it ain't exactly a big un. might even get it sorted within 5 years (fingers, legs, arms, willy - they're all crossed).  |

Why not ask the dealer to check the back end while they have the vehicle there for warranty fixes? I can't imagine the trailing arm and A frame bushes on your vehicle being shagged so soon, it's not as though you've done regular and heavy off roading in adverse conditions is it. Steve. After much thought and bewilderment at your Defenders many problems I have now come to the conclusion that you have what is known in the trade as a ‘Hypochondriac Land Rover’. This debilitating Defender condition is no laughing matter as the psyche of your ‘Puma’ becomes alarmed about any mechanical or electrical symptom it thinks it may have, no matter how minor the symptom may be, I would guess that even when a main agent or qualified Land Rover technician assures the Defender that its concerns are unfounded it will still manifest the symptoms in a negative manner, as an example ‘say your Defenders offside front tyre is slightly underinflated giving rise to a slight understeer, the vehicle will panic thinking its chassis or front axle is failing or twisted and will then manifest those symptoms’. It is hard to recommend a treatment for a ‘Hypochondriac Defender’ as the usual cognitive behavioural therapy has been found to be ineffective in such motors. I am told that a visit to a breakers yard where the Defender is faced with such distress with so many broken motors can sometimes shock the vehicle back to normality. Similarly, though I do not recommend this action personally as it can make matters worse, is to thrash the Defender with part of a tree branch as John Cleese ably demonstrated as Basil Fawlty when he thrashed his Austin 1100 Countryman with a branch in the TV programme Fawlty Towers . Perhaps the associated complaint known as ‘Hypochondriac Land Rover Owner’ should also be considered?

So is that your vehicle Wayne ....if so I presume that's the new A frame balljoint you fitted
....and if that is right did you manage to get it all tightened up correctly.... ...oh ....and did you fit an adjustble one as discussed previously... ...and if that is correct did you adjust it? More on subject, I've been following these threads too. Somehow, after all this time Caterham's 110 is still running and is still drive able and hasn't packed up. Question is.... What will go wrong and when.  |
