I have the Nakatanenga carrier (supplied by Brendan Thumbs Up ).

I would agree with the OP that the instructions supplied are not that clear but to balance that its pretty hard to fit incorrectly as its design is entirely logical. But if you're not a competent DIY'er then you might want to leave it to your indy.

Its definitely the final fettling to get everything level and wobble free that takes longer than the fitting. Mine is holding an 18" Sawtooth with BFG's and no noticeable wobble.

I noticed at the weekend the plastic washer/insert which sits between the rear bracket and pivot mechanism bolt has already pretty much disintegrated so will now be metal to metal. I have it on my long list of to-do's to try and source another. I nipped it up so that the faces were in contact but perhaps I overtightened it and it should actually sit loose?

Oh and so the OP doesn't feel alone. I can only just lift my spare wheel on to the carrier. It is seriously heavy!!
But I too am old and unfit!

Another option is the Kaymar. Probably the strongest and wobble-less of them all, but pricey. And not everybody will like that it opens separate from the door.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Maybe the Safari Single Arm Carrier is an easier configuration option although it isn't stainless? http://www.safari-equip.co.uk/shop/index.p...rrier.html

Hi Barney,

Maybe look at the possibility of sourcing a poly-carbonate washer. Whilst still plastic it would be denser and more resilient perhaps for your purpose?

If people want to see how easy it is to fit a Nakatanenga wheel carrier, come along to our stand at Peterborough.

We have Alex and Harry along with Sandy Grey from Nakatanenga on our stand. Alex has 'volunteered' to do a fitting demonstration of the wheel carrier on our green 110.

(If you are any good at reading between the lines, that means I will not have time to do it myself before the show so am planning on using Alex's expertise! Embarassed Razz )

Thanks Alex Thumbs Up

Being an apprentice Yorkshire man I hope you got the free fitting deal as well as a discount. Laughing Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

I highly recommend the wheel carrier it is fabulous

Buy it and fit it using the lessons learnt from other (not really lessons just tweeks)
More than welcome to ring me when fitting for some verbal advise and encouragement

Well Alex is being paid the same as the other hired friends.

Hope he likes gruel and water as that is apparently the menu for the weekend.

Steve you are at the back of the queue. Razz Alex does have a few things to fit to the green 110 Whistle

Now if you want to cross Alex's palm with silver Whistle Whistle

Must admit when it comes to putting the wheel on the carrier these days I try to get a second pair of hands.

Well I do not want to give the full menu away now do I?

You may well have already experienced the 4x4overlander version of gruel and water Razz

Just be careful of some of the falling over 'water' which may well be at Peterborough Whistle Whistle Laughing Laughing

Nakatanenga spare wheel and V3 door stay
Fitted mine today and would say it was logical but it did take 3 hours from start to finish as had to remove the newly fitted bumperretes which I will sell on the forum later this week Rolling with laughter

Also fitted the V3 door stay which is at the top of the door and does a great job but it take some strength to close the door now Whistle

Bracket is so you can fit another reverse light onto your vehicle without drilling holes in your bodywork.
