^^ yep and enough sand to build a really big sandy thing Exclamation

The chassis are a solid and stronger chassis but as shown everything of steel will rust if not looked after and treated correctly.

So second day playing and after and hour I had this:

Now I did use (but not take a pic) a very good zinc rich weld through primer prior to welding the plate in place, I know it's not the best looking of welds but I'm a little out of practice with arc and as the weld penetrated and is solid I am happy. The rear crossmember assy on the Wolf is different to the civvie version and as such it has an outer plate that bolts over the crossmember, in between the two it was a little bit rusty so a very liberal covering in cavity wax before I rebuilt it along with copious amounts injected in to the chassis itself. (Hands were far too dirty for pics sorry).

A quick blast over with some fresh paint to my crossmember cover made it look nice and respectable again, quick bolt on of all the bits and I got this:

So for a day and a half I am very happy with the result, now back to the long list and stock piling of spares in preparation for the chassis swap some time next year Big Cry 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

So the "holiday" I was ment to be leaving for has been moved right for a couple of weeks, Censored

So now that I'm at work and the boss isn't Whistle time to do that job I have been putting off for a year, the fuel gauge was playing up and miss reading so I removed the cables expecting to clean up the connections and have it nipped...... No this being a lany it was never going to be that easy was it! As I pulled on the female spade connector the male decided it wanted to come too and detached itself from the sender unit.

Now I had a spare sender buried in the shed, new gasket etc but when I was looking at the sender it looked rusted in and didn't look like it wanted to ever come out so the decision of a new tank was made, tank ordered, fuel lines ordered ( Censored me they are not cheap!) and as the bits arrived they went in the shed with the idea I will get around to that, a year or so later of resetting the trip every time I fueled up and I was used to the lack of a fuel gauge.

The sun shining and being told there is no work at 0805 I thought I might as well get it sorted so big pile of bits ready to fit, seat out...... I wonder ?? So a load of freeze and release spray a few taps with a brass punch and out it comes....bonus!

All changed and a fuel gauge that works in 10min.

Well after that what else to do? Move on to the V8 ? Yep silly question, until the end of the day when I had a can of stone chip in my hand, thought I would tart up the front bumper and steering guard:

Now it was just a quick tart up and a new bumper is sitting in the shed but I'm guna save that for the new chassis so this will do for a few months. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Well with some fabulous weather and a service due, I thought that it's the perfect time to crack on.

Full filter swap was done inside an hour including brew times, amazingly every filter was happy to undo by hand, with such nice weather I decided to rummage in the shed for my tub of diff/transfer box oil and change that as well ( one point I shall mention now as I have seen people encounter problems before, always remove the filler plug on any item prior to removing the drain plug, "dirty oil is better than no oil" Thumbs Up )

With all these fluids changed I might even treat the old girl to a gearbox and even coolant change if I get a chance. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Cheers Fat Cog, very nice Wolf there Thumbs Up

A Wolf is the last batch of defenders purchased by the MOD, the project was codenamed Wolf, various reasons behind the name have been put forward the two main ones are:

Wheel On Left Flank
"We should name this Wolf as if we b Censored r it up it will bite us in the ass".

The Wolf is a heavy duty 300tdi with many unique features only to itself. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Where to start on differences? Here is a quick list of basic things, I haven't go into detail on different specs GS/FFR etc.

From front to back;

Front light guards fitted as standard (exception is the BFA, this has none fitted and the sidelight is incorporated into the headlight)

Heavy duty steering guard is fitted to the 90/110 (BFA has a tubular guard fitted)

Jate rings fitted front and rear (recovery/lash down and even for dangling from helicopters)

24v electrics

Heavy duty chassis with additional supports for the rear tub (the excessive weight picked holes in the floor prior to this) rear cross member is a totally different design with an outer plate bolted over the top

Upgraded axles (110 rear axle has additional casing welded on to it as during trials they kept snapping the axle tubes)

6-way lighting switch; allows complete black out of all lights except the convoy light or convoy and sides (only used by lead vehicle)

Two part doors with angled windows

ROPS. Roll over protection system
Originally the rear tub had straightening plates attached to the capping, a roll over bar with a single cross bar sits directly behind the driver/commanders seat attached to a rear cage system

Spare wheel mounted on the side, this has gone through various changes

The roof was a complete redesign due to the ROPS, a contract to a different supplier outside of Land Rover produced the hard top due to it needing extra height is was felt a fibreglass roof would be easier to construct than to modify the normal metal one

Jerry can stowage the 90 can carry two cans mounted to brackets attached to the rear bulkhead, the 110 has two lockers allowing the carriage of four jerry cans (fuel cans should only be carried in the r/h/s and water in the l/h/s)

NATO tow hitch and trailer socket

HD / Wolf rims

Brakes are AP vented fronts and disc on the rear

Now this list is not everything and I will of missed some bits but as a quick rattle from the top of the head I hope it gives you an insight. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Well after a few months of luxury with my D3 I now have Jas back Very Happy so I am once again back in full time defender driving Thumbs Up

I had left Jas in the care of Swmbo and all was going well until she had an argument with a lump of granite, I can't blame her as some of the lanes back home like to bite cars, so the first job I had was repairing the mirror.

I had wanted to upgrade to the Mud blind spot mirrors but they are out of stock on the website so Maggie has kindly donated one of her mirror glasses to enable me to reverse clearly.
