Gearbox levels
Hi all,

Just want to check I am not being stupid, decided to top up the axles gearbox etc today (did the main part of the service earlier In The month but took me a few weeks to get around to finishing the rest). Anyway started filling the gearbox and expected it to take a small amount but it took nearly 2.5 litres before the oil started to spill out of the filler hole! The gearbox doesn't have any leaks and I am guessing it has been this way since it left the factory, not impressed but before I go on a rant to dealer has anyone else come across this?

This was its first non dealer service as it has just dropped out of warranty

Edit - just saw the sticky on service of oils....looks like I have overfilled it....

yep 2.2 litres and not a drop more. That gearbox gets as hot as the engine in use and too much oil will damage the seals. Good luck - its a fiddly job but well worth the effort Thumbs Up
