Td5 speedo in tdi
Just a quickie.
When retrofitting a td5 speedo into a 300tdi, can I use a disco 300tdi speedo drive or do I need a td5 unit?
Many thanks
Rich

you need a td5 transducer and some 3 core cable to replace the tdi speedo cable. Thumbs Up I've just done it myself My 109 thread

Don't buy a Britpart transducer, lots of reports of them failing quickly.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Technically you can, but you would have to re-program the speedo head's EEPROM to accept a different number of pulses per mile. I have also seen someone take apart the Disco unit and modify he rotating magnet to have more 'lobes' which effectively increased/decreased (I forget which) the number of pulses generated per mile to match what is required by the speedo head.

There's a good thread on LR4x4 where a couple of clever chaps reverse-engineered the speedo head and decoded a lot of the internal programming.

You're right, though they're closer to £70 now.
