110 Station Wagon Central Locking
Hi,

I have just brought a 2010 60 Defender 110 Station Wagon. It a basic model not an XS.

It has two keys and two fobs but they do not do lock/unlock the doors, the indicators just flash when pressed. How do I know if it has central locking fitted or not?

Any advice or help would be apreciated.

You can usually feel the drag of the actuators in the door when pulling the lock button up and down.

Is there a rubber cable hose running from door to bulkhead ?

Might seem a stupid question but why would you have a fob with buttons that flash the indicators if it's not for central locking. What else could it do? I would think it is for the central locking and would check all he door switches first.

My base model 110 HT doesn't have central locking and it's newer than yours, so I wouldn't expect you to have.
The remote is for the alarm.

Typical LR, why give you a remote for the alarm when you have to lock it with the key? Why not just arm the alarm when you lock it with the key! I guess it works well if like me you have dogs and lock it when you go to pay for fuel without them setting the alarm off Rolling Eyes

But you really need to check for convoluted tubes running to the doors. The wires going to my locks broke on my new 2010 Defender within 18 months. They just break right in the middle of the tubes due to bending.

Yeah, those pathetic wires are always breaking. Makes me think I should get some wire fit for purpose...

Thanks Guys,

I might strip a door down to see it I can see a solenoid/control unit.

If not, I might fit a retro fit set ( any recommendations? )

Thanks

You will probably find that the alarm IS set when locked with the key, but only the perimetric alarm (ie open a door/bonnet it will sound). As long as passive immobilisation hasn't been disabled, the engine should alos immobilise.

Locking with the fob will activate the volumetric alarm (the one the dogs set off) as well as the above.

I deliberately turned off the function to arm and disarm the alarm with the door lock on mine, if someone was to force the lock externally it would also turn off the alarm and leave the car unprotected.

It would be very unusual and generally stupid to set key unlock to disable the alarm and it would never normally be set (offhand I can't even remember if it's possible).

As normally configured key lock will set the alarm, but key unlock will not unset it.

On a Defender with no central locking, locking with the key does nothing with the alarm.
I haven't tried with our one which does have central locking because I just use the fob.

That's interesting. So the key locks and unlocks only, and the plip arms/disarms the alarm only.

Quite different then to one with central locking.

Without central locking, the driver's door lock is just a key-operated lock.

On vehicles with central locking, in addition to the lock/unlock wires, the driver's door lock/actuator has 2 x additional wires - one going to the 10AS unit, the other going to earth.

These additional wires enable the driver's door lock to instruct the 10AS unit to lock/unlock all of the other doors.
