Hello all,
Writing this on behalf of a friend. She has a tdi 110SW, with approx 140km on the clock. She has a serious grating coming from the rear right wheel. I have sat in the back and the grating is violent enough to feel it comging through the rear seat area. There is excessive oil spraying from the rear diff into the wheel/wheel arch and the wheel mount looks very rusty. The shock and spring look to be ok. The wheel when held to both sides moves in/out by about a quarter of an inch (I.e. Not in the natural direction of the wheel's travel but into/out of the wheel arch). Further, she says the noise is loudest when going round a left hand bend. I have checked and all nuts are tight (boost alloys, BTW). I am asking for advice on what you more experienced bods think it is, in order of likelihood and therefore inspection. The mechanic (experienced, but not an LR specialist) thinks it is just a ruined diff. I can understand that from the noise and grating (or at least a ruined seal and diff that is empty of oil) but I cannot understand why there would be movement as described of the wheel. So I was wondering, bearings, ball joint or tie-rod end? And if possibly any of the above, which order? Any advice very welcome as I have told her not to drive until it has been addressed and that perhaps she should be getting the vehicle down the hill to the local LR indie who has a great reputation. Many thanks in advance Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |
