Nice progress, I'm guessing with you painting the front of the chassis, that you've decided to repair it and not replace?

Well Things are now a lot clearer in my head after the long weekend......but my credit card is going to have to take a beating !!

I decided (had no choice in the end ) to order a New Richards Chassis.

To help me finally make a decision on the chassis, I removed the rear tub and got busy with the 9" angle grinder.

First impressions weren't too bad but the more I cut away the worse it got, so new chassis it will have to be.
Plan to have a go at replacing it myself, now that the long evenings are upon us Smile

On the positive side the Rear Tub is in good shape with just a bit of flaking paint, power hosed it down and ready for a good coating of Dinitrol or similar , haven't decided on what to coat the underside with yet. Seat belt brackets taken off and coat in Por15 to help seal against corrosion.
Removed the cappings too as they are gone in the corners and waiting on my friend Nick to send me on a replacement

Now to get on with breaking down all the panels and removing the engine and box in prep for the new chassis arrival in May......Kind of excited now Rolling with laughter

With the new chassis due in early May, I set about making preparations to switch over the chassis.

As I already had the rear tub off, I'm going to try to lift the front section of the body in one. Plan to make up a gantry crane and lift it by the bulkhead chassis mountings and roll the chassis out.

I made up a temp support in wood to keep the cab and roof section intact.

Apart from the Brake lines, Hopefully everything else is now disconnected and ready for lift off !!

Next weeks job is to make up the gantry crane for the lift.......

And we have lift off....came apart without too much stress in the end, after I realized I forgot to remove the 2 little M6 bolts at the front of the seat box Embarassed

Plan is to clean and paint up the underside of the seat box in POR15.
Give engine and gear box a good clean and fit a new clutch and rear crank seal when access is so good...Anything else I should do before swapping over to the new chassis.

A bit of an update for anyone who's still watching Very Happy

removed engine and gearbox and now down to the rolling chassis. New one arrives next week, Trevor Cuthbert very kindly put it on top of his load that he's collecting from Richards.

Changed the rear crank seal with a genuine LR one and sent the flywheel to be skimmed as it had a few marks in it. HAve new Borg and Beck clutch kit with heavy duty fork to be fitted on build up. It's amazing now easy it is to access the clutch with no body in the way !!

Next update will hopefully have a shiny new chassis Very Happy

Well look what landed here in Kildare yesterday. My Brother kindly collected the chassis for me, it fits straight in to the hugh load bed of the lwb volkswagon crafter, a monster of a van !!

First impression of the Richards Chassis is that its very well put together but a tad rough around the edges but maybe I'm just fussy !!
There are no holes for the brake pipe clips or fuel lines, so probably means drilling the top to take some small P clips Crying or Very sad

The weather gods were shining on me, a full day of sunshine in Ireland and no rain.....so I cracked on with assembling the rolling chassis.

Had most of the brackets, bolts etc. ready to go, all cleaned up and replaced where necessary. Painted in 2 coats of Por 15.
