The towing electrics on my TD5 90 have corroded away at the plug, and whilst I could just fit a new plug, I have a new caravan with a 13 pin connection.
I could fit the normal 12N and 12S sockets, and use an adaptor to connect the caravan, but I think it would be better and neater to fit a 13 pin socket to the vehicle. Does anybody know if the 13 pin electrics will plug in under the right hand rear wheel arch like the old 12N harness that I have just removed? or will I be into wiring mods to fit a 13 pin version? 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy |

The 13 pin electrics do plug in, but there is a branch which goes forwards to the battery where a relay is mounted to generate the ignition feed for the 13 pin socket.
I've got 13 pin on the Puma but have not yet fitted the ignition branch  But I am not towing a tin tent just normal trailers   1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Having said that, for the Td5 part numbers (for a 90, YWJ500040) the instructions are not on TOPIX

Ok, saved me the bother of looking.
Anyway having found out the cost of the LR 13pin setup (130 quid), I think I will hack the plug off the one I have, and modify it onto a 13 pin plug which I can get for a fiver. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV 1966 S2a 109 aka Betsy |

I'd agree with you. All of the connections except the ignition are available in the rear wheel arch if you look hard enough
