Wiper woes.
So traveling back from a long run yesterday the wipers stopped working, wouldn't have been too bad if it was just me, but I had the wife and two kids in the motor with me. Weather was horrendous and the motor was running for hours, so took a look today, and the motor is still fine but the wipers don't work. Took the dash off and took a look, disconnected the cable and it has snapped inside the motor, is this something I can buy, or do I need the whole assembly?

I'm prepared to document the whole process in the hope that it will help someone else out, I'm happy to add pics of the whole thing. Thanks in advance guys. All the best

Mark

That's it, brilliant, thank you. I've ordered the original LR part, and have set aside next weekend to do the job. Any one have any tips? I've already removed the wiper motor, how does the cable attach to it? Mine was snapped so have no reference to how it should look, I'm thinking I need to disassemble the motor a bit where the cable goes in, there are some small coach type bolts. I will take some pics, back in a bit. All the best

So, here are the bolts that I think I need to undue to get access to where the cable seats?

I would also replace the two wiper spindles as they may let go soon. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

That's great both, thanks. The cable just feeds through the wheel boxes and terminates where at the other end? The dash is back on now, so I can't take a quick look. I've just taken a look at the manual and the drawing isn't that clear, also do I really need to take off the dash, can I just tip it forward abit? I'd rather not mess about with the gear sticks, and the manual says I need to remove them both to get the whole dash off. All the best

other end doesn't do or connect to anything , just feed cable through from motor end

take wiper arms off before removing old cable and pushing cable through as the spindles need to turn 360 degrees for cable to feed right through

grease cable before fitting

As above.
Carry out a general overhaul of everything while you're at it - The parts are relatively cheap.
When my wipers failed, the broken side was fixed under warranty & I paid for the other side, as it didn't make sense to have a mix of new & worn components that might lead to another failure in the near future.
By the way, the tell tale signs, leading up to the failure of my wipers, were that one blade wasn't horizontal when parked, nor was the 'bad' blade aligned with the 'good' blade.
If your wipers are doing this then you might want to take preventative action. '57 Defender 110 XS Station Wagon 2.4tdci

Does anyone have a part number or a link to the wiper boxes/spindle, as most have said it makes little to no sense to not overhaul the whole thing while the dash is off. It quite confusing with all the past models and I'm not sure which ones to order, I'd rather fit original parts as they have lasted eight years. Thanks in advance. All the best

Nice one thanks, all ordered. Hopefully they will be delivered next week, and I can fit on Saturday as the wife is refusing to drive it without wipers, what with all the rain we are having. All the best

Hi Mark, when you fit the wiper spindles, please could you let us know how much of the dash you had to strip down to get to them. Cheers.

So, more problems sigh...

Wife went to start the truck this morning, and the ignition is completely locked on, when I tipped the dash forward is there a chance that I've done something inadvertently to the ignition and steering as there seems to be something touching the steering down tube thingy too? All the best
