What jack do you have?
Just wonder who has what?
In my 90 I've got the pillar jack from the factory on the bulkhead.
Some have bottle jacks instead.
Wouldn't a combo of both be a good idea in case of different situations?

Surely there isn't much difference between the jack I have and a Hi Lift?

How much are each worth new / used?

I keep a Hi Lift jack in the back of my 90 behind the seats just in front of the bulkhead bars.

5ft Hi-Lift mounted across the back of the bulkhead for me. Versatile and quick without needing to crawl around under the vehicle to position the jack. BUT, they are a tricksy beast to use if you don't know what you are doing and very easy to drop the vehicle off the jack if you do get it wrong.
I also use my Hi-lift for breaking the beads of tyres when removing them from wheel rims the manual way.

Original bottle jack, because it's there, and Hi Lift under second row seats, easy to get to and useful in certain circumstances.

Maybe you are right munch, I have seen some with a bottle jack under the passenger seat seems to be properly restrained too which seemed to look OE.
Perhaps it was just a good retrofit.

Yes, some/many Defenders came with a bottle jack. Many came with the ghastly pillar jack thing.

Bottle jack is best to use if wheel changing at the roadside. A hilift is far more versatile, can do many things, but requires more understanding and care. There are many situations where a hilift will work but a bottle jack won't, but I can't think of any where a hilift won't work but a bottle jack will.

I carry both a bottle jack and a hilift. If you get a hilift, get a good one (eg a genuine HiLift) and make sure you really understand the benefits, risks, and tips.

Any minute now the forum "hilift police" will be along to tell us they should be banned, and we should be locked up for liking them! Rolling with laughter

The pillar jack is useless and should be thrown in the scrap metal skip!

My 2014 Stationwagon came with a bottle jack under the passenger seat. It's clearly OEM as it has a place to fit and rubber bungee. It's use is also detailed in the owners manual IIRC.
