Strange Headlight fault
When driving tonight I dipped the headlights for an oncoming lorry and the headlights totally went out Shocked

Pushing the stalk forwards again put main beam back on. When I dipped the lights again - they went out again so I turned them off and back on again then the dipped beam worked. The rest of the way home I used the flash position for main beam and when dipping the headlights from that position all worked normally.

My first thought was the main headlight switch but I replaced that just before I changed to led headlights and all has been working normally so I'm a little stumped. Are there any relays in the standard system other than the dim dip one? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Hi Grafty, it could be the light switch.... but it also could be the indicator stalk, take a look at this post, if you can't find it and need another Td5 to compare to or need another light switch then let me know, I'm nr Bradworthy Thumbs Up

There is one relay (other than the useless dim-dip) in the headlight circuit, which is an ignition-activated relay fitted to ensure that the headlights only work with the ignition on. It is unlikely to be the cause of your problems since if it was misbehaving you'd have no headlights at all.

It is, as noted above, more likely to be one or other of the two light switches, probably the dip/main/indicator stalk. Since your LED lights are unlikely to melt the switches in the way original headlamps do, it may be dirt on the contacts or a loose contact perhaps.
