Puma steering play...
I have just had the steering box replaced on my MY 14 Puma! developed a leak after 1000 miles! Shocked

The new box was finally fitted... took the dealer 2 days!

I have now noticed some play in the box... in the straight ahead position, a small movement of the steering wheel translates directly to a small movement of the front wheels... as I expected. HOWEVER, with the steering on 3/4 lock, both left and right, there is about 2 inches of steering wheel movement that is 'dead' and produces no movement of the front wheels.

Is this normal? I did not notice this on the original steering box... Is the new one duff? Does it need bleeding?

All very odd Rolling Eyes

Appreciate thoughts?

THANKS!!! Thumbs Up

I looked up in the search 'steering play'... but nothing came up!

Really pleased... I was not looking forward to a return visit to the dealers, who I will now rename 'Tory Canyon Landrover' for the amount of steering box fluid that was all over the the suspension, subframe and bumper bar when I picked up the car!

Does my sweed in! Mad YOLO... You Only Live Once...

Bear in mind that PAS fluid is extremely flammable and has a very low flashpoint, in fact it is probably the most easiily flammable fluid on a diesel-engined Landrover. If your vehicle really is covered in it you may want to hose it off.

Thanks mate.

I actually took it back to the dealer today and got them to clean it all off!

After fitting the new steering box, the wheels also needed aligning... so as well as looking like the Tory Canyon, the truck came back with vice grip marks all across the steering rod, right down to expose silver bare metal, where the monkey wrench had decide this is how to do the job... Evil or Very Mad

I was pretty speechless really. Shocked YOLO... You Only Live Once...
