Dinitrol over waxoyl
Just wondered if you can effectively give the chassis a dinitrol protection if it has already been waxoyled?

Has anyone done this?

Cheers

Tom

I had my Defender professionally waxoyled several years ago. I now use Dintrol extensively as a top up and when fitting new items. Thumbs Up

Purchased from here:

I originally wayoyled my chassis and retreated the entire inside and out with the dinitrol products, very happy with results.

Anywhere surface rust appears, say where a chip etc is, I first touch up with a rust primer.

Treatments have moved on leaps and bounds since Waxoyl came on the market decades ago. It comes out lastsin tests as it doesn,t creep very well compared to others, it dries out leaving a cakey substance in very little time, it is a simple mix of wax, oil and white spirits and needs applying in a warm state, on vertical surfaces it has tendency to just slide down the side leaving a trace of white spirit and a heap of wax at the bottom, it is also not vibration proof, this is all well known and been said before on many forums etc... Better than nothing though and saved my old SAAB around flat, non abrasive areas back in the seventies.

The newer treatments such as Dinitrol, Bilt Hamber etc are solvent based so it like spraying on a waxy, oily glue and coats/seals waxoyl very well. They also last longer. Clients cars I did 4 years ago are still good Wink

Main thing is how good the surface is to start with , how many bits you want or need to remove to get proper protection , how good your equipment is , and of course knowledge of the bits that need best protection like impact areas , water/mud traps etc

Hi Zag,

As you now appear to the Def2 resident rustproofing expert perhaps you can cast some light as to the difference in the solvent used in the two named products given the above. In my own humble experience both Waxoyl and Dinitrol will thin with white spirit. Steve.
