door hinge problem.
Well, the bolt heads had started to go so i decided to replace them all, bought the stainless bolt kit years ago lost it, found it never got around to it.

started on the pax side first, on the bottom hinge, bottom bolt it was chipped and i always wondered why... i found out the bolt head silicone'd in, pried it out trying to do the least damage to paint i could and found out it was just stuck in, not screwed into anything... will have words with land rover in the morning.

(had the bulkhead completely replaced by them under warranty)

so i thought ill sort that myself, the little metal clip was clearly missing the bolt, i used a stainless one fitted it into the clip tried to tighten it up and nothing, the bolt is just spinning, i looked at the top clip and the nut is actually a square one Censored

now i can't get the bolt undone and the hinge is just hanging...

any ideas how to get it out?

It will knacker your hinge. Take a grinder or dremmel and by cutting through at an angle take the head of the bolt off. Remove the hinge and you should be able to cut the bolt release the square nut and extract it rearwards.

Alternatively if there is any play in the bolt you may be able to cut the bolt behind the hinge with a little force but there is a high risk of heat/paintwork damage.

The nuts are square if as above suggested you can find something small enough to purchase on the nut at a 90 degree angle that may be the best least damaging but most labour intensive option. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Can you pull the hinge hard enough away from the bulkhead to stop it spinning whilst drilling out the head? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

that was my last effort solution up to now, but being stainless it might be a pig to drill.

tried pulling it away while i undo the bolt but no luck.

I think stainless is slightly softer so should be easier if anything to drill Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Two suggestions: 1 use small kitchen Gas burner to heat the nut (just enough to melt the silicon)
2 If there is a gap then glue the nut into the hinge............wait and turn the whole hinge
with the nut fixed in place!

Don't like the idea of heat... Could try to epoxy but I'm as likely to get it on the screw threads

Hmm

I've had to cut the bolt with hacksaw blade slid between the body and hinge. Took AGES.

Remove metal from both sides of the 90 deg spanner by grinding until it will fit through the access hole.

Drill the head off the bolt. Start with a small drill first, then go bigger. Easy.
Other option - take it to Land Rover and get them to fix it! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Had an afterthought how about a set of these to try and hold the nut? One of the jaws may fit down the aperture.
