I think you have to repeatedly press both lock and unlock together until it does something

Just keep pushing the button til it works , sometimes 8 ish times just one button cant think if it matters which one

The owners hand book has a section for the replacement procedure of the fob battery.
The gist of it is.... You have 5 minutes to do the change or you will need to enter the EKA code to synchronise the fob. Procedure(basics).... Insert key and turn to position II(ignition on). Turn key to position O(Ignition off). Remove the back of the fob and remove the battery. Hold one button for minimum 5 seconds to drain any residual power in the fob. Fit the new battery ensuring contacts are clean and polarity is correct. Reassemble the fob. From outside the car operate the LOCK button at least 4 times(this synchronises the fob). Press unlock to unlock. All done. The above is from my Australian delivered unit but can't see why there would be a different else where. I'd try doing the above before playing with the EKA codes. As above the LR one far more involved than others makes where you just change the battery and everything works!

I replaced the battery once myself, took all together less than a minute, and everything worked thereafter as before from the first click, did not have to synchronise anything at all.
Now tell me, the fob itself does not have a memory I presume, so it will not remember that it has been briefly battery-less during the replacement. Maybe the reason why it was so trouble free with me was because I did the battery replacement far away from the truck. So if the fob itself has no memory as I believe is the case, the truck will never know. Makes sense? Eric You never actually own a Defender. Mine gets replaced at rather B service , I even get a reminder to take in the spare fob!

The fob needs to be re synced with the 10as whenever the battery has been removed. The reason for this is that each key fob that is learned to the 10as uses a rolling code as a defence against being cloned. When you remove the battery the fob loses this code and by pressing either button a number of times this re synchs the fob and 10as to the same rolling code. The number of times you press the buttons depends on how quickly the battery was replaced and whether or not another fob was used in the interim. FYI on the 10as 4 presses of lock is a full re synch as long as it has been enabled in the 10as settings menu with a diagnostic tool, (Plip presses for re synch)

Just remember that they are charging you somewher ein the region of £8.96 for the batteries and labour at £2.00 a minute to do it! |

Um just wondering if someone has any further ideas. I have my immobiliser disarmed by land rover because of past headaches. I believe the alarm is still activated, and go goes off if a door is opened. I changed my battery today, well away from the car, and all within 1 minute. Of corse it did nothing when I went to try it.
So I have followed Alien's approach, and lorrymans, but still have nothing. I have no reason to think the replacement battery is flat, but I'm starting to wonder unless I have changed the 10as security system somehow. phew, you can all stop panicking. New battery was the answer, the old new battery must have been stuffed. Nothing fancy with the installation, just swapped it over sitting in the car then pressed lock a few times on the fob and hey presto it came alive. Good thing really, using the key to lock and unlock the drivers door, the only one with a barrel was becoming a pain. My Defender and travels
