The TD5 setup is completely different and not compatible with a 300TDi.
Having said that though, there IS a very simple solution - the 300TDi pickup from a plastic tank Discovery will fit a TD5 tank. You can then run a standard 300TDi Discovery setup. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

I have a ROW 300tdi 90 with this setup as standard.
The correct ROW fuel pickup / sender unit for a 300tdi 90 with rear plastic fuel tank is available for about £70 new from main dealers still. The disco one works but fuel gauge isn't accurate Don't forget the exhaust pipe will need to be changed if you fit the rear td5 tank. The correct 300tdi ROW rear pipe is discontinued by Land Rover and no-one makes a correct pattern pipe. People will say that the late 300tdi rear pipe with no silencer will fit but it won't. Bearmach sell a pipe made by Bosal with the correct ROW part number but it is wrong - it is just a TD5 rear pipe. You need to buy a standard late 300tdi 1997 onwards mid pipe with silencer and a standard TD5 rear silencer, you will need to make an extension piece to extend the mid section by 135mm with a 3 bolt flange to mate up with the td5 rear pipe - photos below. I spent countless hours on the phone trying to order the correct pipe, ended up with three wrong ones, before realising that the RoW 90 is such a rare beast that I was on my own and knocked up that adaptor in 20mins! The mid section silencer needs the late rear mounting bracket which bolts directly to a frame crossmember by two m6 bolts, I think YRM do them if yours is an earlier 300tdi.

for fuel tank
isn't the td5 and tdci the same tank , but the td5 has a electric fuel pump , tdci 2.4 doesn't , so could you use the tdci fuel pick up in the td5 tank doing away with electric pump or use a tdci 2.4 fuel tank complete ? sorry don't know 100% |

Blimey that's cheap when I had my 300TDI Disco it was a lot more money. I initially thought I'd save a bob or two and bought 'reconditioned' and had to exchange it as it was making a hell of a racket, the second too the sender didn't work and I ended up buying new. If memory serves me correctly the combined unit was well over £200 at that time. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

thinking about it you may find the fuel level sender in the tdci tank might not work with a 300 tdi gauge

Had a similar problem when I rebuilt my project and changed the rear tub to a TD5 one, so I installed this pipe to run from the TD5 back filler to the under seat tank. I got a stainless steel exhaust manufacturer to make up the pipe for me think at the time it cost somewhere in the region of £50.00 and works a treat.
You will also need a length of rubber tubing to extend the breather pipe all the original rubber hoses from filler neck and fuel tank are still used, though I bought new OEM ones. It really is a simple job to fit once you have the stainless pipe and a few hose clips. When I fill up to capacity I reckon I get an extra six or seven litres (great when you have a Tesco voucher for 10p or 20p a litre off ).
The great thing about this mod is you leave everything as it is exhaust, fuel tank, electrics, pump etc. And it saves you a fortune by not having to replace anything. And if the garage who is doing your work can bend pipe then you do not even need to find an exhaust manufacturer to do the pipe.
