1994 Defender 110 300 Tdi HT Pennine Grey

90 hard suspension

Hi all and happy easter,I have a 2012 2.2 90 hard top and i am trying to make the suspension softer,i do not carry any big loads 99% is on tarmac.It is a 2550kg hd model,this comes with hd rear srings NRC9662 and NRC9463 gr/yel/red and gr/yel /white.Ive swapped these for NRC 9448 and NRC9449 blue/red and yel/white rated at 225lbs as fitted to the 2400kg model.i also fitted Bilstein B6 shocks just to the rear.This has made no differences what so ever.Its still rock hard and bouncy on my local potholed roads.Ive read loads of post on this subject ,One person suggested fitting the standard front shocks to the rear ieNRC 9446 and NRC 9447 blue/yel and blue red.these are rated at 175lbs i think.Any ideas folks.Thanks in advance

I don't have the numbers to hand - but standard rear shocks in an unloaded vehicle can be pretty hard.

Also I've read that the Bilsteins are stiff and perhaps better suited to smooth road work.

Perhaps you'd be better going with progressive springs ? I'll have a look for the numbers....

Can't find them at the moment - but you could consider fitting the 110/Disco front progressive onto the rear:

110 Driver’s Front NRC 8044 Double White Stripes 384.30mm
110 Passenger Front NRC 8045 Double Yellow Stripes 368.10mm

Double WHITE NRC8044
210lbs 7.5 15.13" L/F-Disco
Double YELLOW NRC8045
210lbs 7.5 14.49" R/F-Disco

210 is only a bit down on the 225 rear firmest - but benefit from the progressive rate - might be worth checking the damping first though. If you have your old shocks - swap them back for a test drive.
