Is there an argument that the restricted pipe will be more prone to coking up, therefore reducing airflow, possibly resulting in the position you are in with warning lights after many miles without them?

I'm not sure, but what I do know from previous experience and from other postings on here is that the EGR Valve is a proverbial irksome, troublesome, temperamental, unreliable, prone to kicking up a fault at any time, intermittantly operating....piece of cr4p engineering that as soon as someone comes up with a viable solution to get rid of totally without a MIL light illuminating I'll race you to the 'checkout' with one.

Same - and when LR recently replaced the valve - it was all good again - but now, 2 months later - surging. Who else has had this issue caused by bunged up EGR's? Or is this why everyone is blanking them off?

PS - cleaned my MAF sensor - I'll let you know if this stops the surging - which is really just a slight miss when feathering on/off throttle.

If you've got the time and inclination it is worth whipping the EGR Valve out periodically and giving it a clean in brake cleaner I reckon!!!!

Especially if you're out of warranty! Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Will do - although I have 18 days of warranty left - then my 3 years extended warranty kicks in! Mr. Green

Just a thought. Instead of installing a blanking plate with a hole in it, would it be feasible to put a small length of piping of the same diameter as the hole in the blanking plate into the hose feeding into the EGR. Once inserted the small length of pipe or tubing could be held in place with one or two hose clips. This would have the effect of restricting the amount of gases by funneling them through a smaller aperture-which is what the blanking plate does. It would be easier than dismantling the EGR. This is probably a non runner and there is probably a reason as to why it would not work. No doubt someone will explain why. But it was just a thought. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Hi All ,

I have just added an EGR blanking plate to my Puma ,
Size used was 12 mm so far without issues .
job is a little fiddly due to access even though there are only 3 bolts to remove/replace . Removing the bonnet helps as does using a tapered nail punch to realign the holes .

What wasn't clear to me was the difference a blanking plate would make, it truly is a new engine far quieter and less "agricultural" than before , if any of you are suffering a dead spot/lag when first applying throttle then this will remove virtually all of the hesitant response .

EGR plate was from Bell Auto Services and arrived the next day in a range of sizes , Fantastic Puma 2009

I had it replaced 2 months ago and the new one starts surging again. Hans

I think if im going to replace it (and note the MAF does improve everything in my experience) i would go for a software update rather than a plate. Mike

For anyone fitting the blanking plates, rather than removing the bonnet, you can get better access than normal by tying it back with length of rope. Thumbs Up

I'm resurrecting this post Wink
Are you still so enthusiast about the engine being quieter? If so at what RPMs are you talking about?
Last, who now sells good td4 blanking systems?

The early blanking option/testss have now been updated with software delete option inside a remap.

meaning you don't have to physically blank it and do it via software?
