Second water pump in 6 months :-(

Hey guys. First, excuse me for my writing, but i'm from Belgium, so ...

About six months ago, a had some red spots on my driveway. Nothing serious, but i always want to fix things immediately. So my local LR garagist installed a new waterpump.

After one week, the pump started leaking again. So back to the garagist and he fitted a new one. He said it could be just a bad one, or a 'monday' water pump. Fine by me, no probs ...

But today, about 6 months later (7.000 km or 4.300 miles) a spotted a little red drop one the driveway. Damn. Not again! And yes, like before, a tiny bit of red water coolant is weeping from that weeping hole.

Just did an oil change last wednesday and tipped up the coolant reservoir, 'cause it was around 1 cm (0.39 inch) under the level mark. In fact, it always drops under the level mark after filling up, but i read somewhere that it's normal for a Td5. They seem to self regulating there level ...

So ... what to do? Another water pump?
Just keep an eye on it and see what the coolant level does?
Don't tip up the coolant level to the mark, 'cause the pump can't cope the extra pressure?
Other suggestions?

Hi Guzzio, may be just bad luck...
But I had the same experience, after approx. one year after replacing again a waterpump failure. My local independent (but LR specalised) garage replaced the pump without costs.

That is now some years ago, so the replacement is still working good without leaking.
So, off to your garagist...

Hmmm ... thanks for the answer VeeTee. I hope it's just another bad pump again. I have faith in my local garagist, so back to the workshop ... or i do it myself. Can't be that hard!?

But i wonder ... could it be that the little drive shaft (don't know how do you call it in proper English) that makes the water pump turning, is just a little bit 'outlined' so it makes the water pump fail time after time?

Just thinking loud ...

Ah, i now see you are talking about the TD5, these use a different design waterpump (the well known P-gasket failure is a 300Tdi thing). Then could be a O-ring leaking?
