Handbrake Help
Good evening all,

I have just replaced the handbrake shoes in my td5 (they were pretty worn)

With the adjuster screw on the bottom of the back plate wound fully out and the cable slackened off it is stuck on pretty hard. After a short amount of driving it stops binding (I assume the drum expands) but snatches on and off with the clutch dipped, whilst rolling along.

I'm at the end of my tether with adjusting it to make it stop please can someone point me in the right direction?

p.s. the drum was a tight fit when putting it all back together Whistle

Thanks in advance Mr. Green 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Guessing you know this , but with cable and adjuster backed off the drum should quite a loose fit

without seeing it its hard to say whats wrong

i would have it to bits again , and double check

Probably the most likely explanation is that whilst the shoes were out one or both of the wedge shaped doobries inthe adjuster has rotated so that it no longer fully retracts, or if you took them out to clean and lube you've transposed them - they are not interchageable.

Unless the shoes you've been given are totally incorrect, the only explanation for this with the cable fully slack (are you sure?) and the adjuster fully slack is that for some reason the shoes are not properly seated.

Take the drum off again and have a careful look. I'll wager the problem becomes apparent.
