Hello all,
Just a quick question regards grill covers. I've seen quite a few out here and wondered what they're for and are they if any use? Obviously it has something to do with the cold, so if it helps it was -7c this morning when I fired up the beast. Further, if they are useful can they be used with an Aircon variant of a 2.2? There are a couple of different uses for Radiator Muffs;
1) Help to create a bow wave in front when wading - Commonly called Wading Blankets 2) To protect the radiator (or A/C condensor) from mud, snow etc... 3) In extreme cold conditions, help the radiator run warmer by stopping air flow which creates a more efficient burn and toasty interior - However, I've not read many manufacturers that actually claim that these are for this purpose as there is a risk of overheating and not great for A/C performance either. The real fix is to have the correct Thermostat fitted if you are getting issues. If the temperature gauge is reaching normal temperature, about half way, then you don't need to worry. No no issues with mine, temp hits half way, if a little slowly. I was just wondering, as i did think that local, seasonal use was for exactly the reason you mentioned, (re protection and improved efficiency) but was also concerned about over-heating. Would obviously not need to use AC at -7c, so no issues there, but if honest on really cold mornings it can be a smidge sluggish up hill. Dual carriageway into Cham includes a viaduct that is 5km uphill (vertical ascent 275m), normally tackled at a comfortable 110km, this AM was a bit sluggish though. Cool, will leave it off.
