Roof Rack Protection?
I've got a genuine Defender Roof Rack on my old Land Rover, which I use to transport ladders, roof rack is great other than the fact where the ladders sit the powder coating doesn't last and comes off. I used pipe lagging to start with for protection but it doesn't last long. On my new one was thinking of getting a new rack but wonder if there's anything I can do to protect it, ideally I need some rollers or something for the ladders to sit on?

I use roof rack pads. Two pads across the front and three across the rear. They are basically pipe insulation with a nylon cover that both secures them (velcro) and stops the foam disintegrating. I use nylon cable ties to keep them in place as I leave them on year round.

Try googling "roof rack pads" they are £10 - 15 a pair.

Could you not cover with pieces of garden hose?
If the rack can dismantle to slip pieces over the frame?

Zip tie a couple of strips of plywood across the bars where you lay the ladders.
