yes drill it then use rivnuts (m6) as you cant get in there to hold nuts when bolting brackets on

/\/\/\ Dont know if the 90's are as awkward as the 110's, but I managed to replace the rivnuts with standard nut and bolt (stainless).Bolt inserted into spanner and a bit of gaffer tape holding it in place.Fat fingers won't help thats fer sure,lol.Also a longer spanner would help,or 2 spanners well gaffer taped together. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

if im drilling into the rear cross member do i need to put anything on the exposed metal or spray anything into the hole before using bolts etc..
rivits not an option im looking at only bolts,nuts. |

paint round hole with waxoyl etc , I would paint the surface of both the mating surface with underseal with added waxoyl then as you tighten up it will seal the joint

I bought some mudflap brackets which mount to the face of the cross member. Much better placement as its hard to wreck them and are easily replaced. The problem with the original rivnuts is that rot sets in. Get some stainless/rubber/alloy ones if you go this direction.

Just looked under mine looks like three bolts underneath ......are you saying that once you have taken these bolts off you cannot use them again because you cannot get access to bolt head and have to use rivnuts?what a bleedin useless design! |

no if you undo the three bolts there should be rivnuts already in the cross member
there just a way of putting a thread into a blind hole give them a good soaking to wd etc first completely re useble , just a standard m6 bolt |

The problem is that they quickly rust and become impossible to remove short of a grinder and when they get ripped off it pulls the rivnuts through the cross member damaging and enlarging the hole.... Ask me how I know!
