The 2 Min Mod for the Steering & Turning Circle
Have I imagined or dreamt this up.

I'm sure I'd read on a forum or 2 that there is some sort of modification that people suggests takes a few minutes and has an impact on the steering and thus turning circle.

Now of course 2 mins in Defender time probably equates to 2 hours or 2 days Rolling with laughter but have I imagined this and is it something to do with bolts on hubs????

I'm sure I saw someone say it's the best Defender mod you can do and should be the 1st thing anyone does when they buy one.

Ahhhh fab!

I'm assuming there wouldn't be an issue doing it with our car running 18" wheels?

Yes it greatly improves the turning circle most people do it after having fitted spacers not sure if you get any adjustment with out spacers or different off set wheels but worth a look.
It's simply a case of jacking the front up and making it safe to work on ie axel stands, then just adjusting bump stops or streering stop what ever you want to call them by slackening off lock nut and adjusting bolt to allow wheels to turn more but not allowing them to rub inner arch
If you can down load service manual there's pics on there Thumbs Up It's good to be back from the dark side

Mines on 18'' wheels and no problems. Thumbs Up
But the amount of adjustment available might be affected by the wheel offset.

Makes a world of difference - did it on my 2011 110 on Boosts and 2012 110 on Sawtooths (both on 235/85/16) with great success.

A really beneficial mod and one so easy even I can do it Thumbs Up

C 2015 110 USW XS in Santorini with premium contrast leather seats in tan/black, black headlining and with Dual Finish alloys (in the garage, now on Wolf rims with Goodyear MT/Rs)

2012 '62' 2.2 X-Tech 110 USW now gone ...
1984 90 soft top with full roll cage, 200 tdi engine etc now sold
2012 USW XS 2.2 "FUU" now gone....

+1 for the above. It took me 5 minutes with two spanners and I am a mechanical numty.

I don't understand why you need to jack anything up, though. You can reach the nuts easily from the front, from underneath the bumper.

PS I found the second method outlined in VeeTee's post on the link to be the more helpful way of doing it. 1970 Series 2A 88"

2 mins literally with two spanners and you don't need to jack the front up if you don't mind dry steering.. Makes a massive difference to turning circle. Worth doing irrelevant to whichever wheels you have as the factory set them to worst case scenarios.

Definitely the most important Mod or rather something that should be done at PDI!!

Guess it just means turning the wheels on the spot without any forward momentum. Some people find such practices to be abhorrent but on an offroad 4x4 it aint gonna make an ounce of difference!

Simple check. Turn your wheels full lock to lock and see if you can run your hand between the radius arm and the back of the tyre on each side at full lock each side. If there is loads of room then it will be worth adjusting. If it is a tight fit then it is as far as sensible or it will probably rub on full lock with a bit of load on it.

You would be surprised how many people never check they have max lock. When we did the Alps I was able to drive the Stelvio pass without shunting once. My mate had to shunt on almost every corner. Later in the campsite I had a look and he had loads of room so I tweaked the stops for him and the rest of the trip was so much easier for him.

I found that by following the instructions and then checking the measurement it was spot on first time so no need to check, steer recheck.

Bear in mind that as a numty this worked for me. Embarassed 1970 Series 2A 88"
