Best or cheapest.

Best I would say are from Brendan at 4x4overlander - basically stainless copies of the original fit items.

Cheapest - eBay or Britpart? Dunno never looked TBH.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

We are the only people who sell stainless bolts for the doors with genuine Land Rover heads in the UK.

The kits we supply are probably the most comprehensive kits available in the UK. All our stainless kits comes with anti seize paste as standard which no one else does in the UK.

So whilst the VAST 110 bolt kits looks expensive at our standard price of £99 for 430 parts plus anti seize paste it does work out as good value for money overall

I bought the kit from "Stigs"... http://www.a2stainless.co.uk/Land-Rover_B2142O.aspx

However, if I were doing it again, I would buy the kit from Brendan. I'm halfway thru fitting the Stigs kit, so no point swapping now... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Brendan that is not expensive, have you ever worked out how much it would cost for a complete set of OEM fixing from JLR and they are not stainless, suffice to say it’s a second mortgage amount Wink

Well looking at prices other people are charging when the Bah Humbug season is out of the way I can return to applying for my Yorkshire citizenship Thumbs Up

Now look at

Quote:

Defender 110 CSW Stainless TORX Hinge Screw Kit
Torx screws for Bonnet, 4 Cab Doors and rear Safari Door hinges
Per Unit:
£72.00 (£60.00 ex VAT)

Now our price for that set with genuine Land Rover heads and anti seize paste is £59 including VAT

Hmmmm Idea Whistle

The tube of anti seize paste on ebay is between £20-£30. What I do not understand is why other UK suppliers will not include anti seize paste as standard or have they not heard of stainless steel cold welding?

Now before Andrew S gets into a blind panic about our prices Razz we will not be putting up our prices just yet Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Just had a look and I've seen a kit for the 110HT. Is there a kit for the 90HT, or is that the same as the 90SW kit?

Does anyone know if the above kit includes the captive nuts used on the front door hinges to bulkhead ?

I know when I've replaced Defender door hinge screws in the past they're often pretty badly rusted, it's not stated in the product description in the link though.

Bit like asking who sells the best cheese! Are you after hard or soft? Produced from Cow, sheep or goat milk? Pasteurised or unpasteurised milk, level of maturity or not? English, French, Canadian or whatever country of origin?

The problem with most stainless steel fasteners is, that just like cheese the word "stainless" covers a multitude of variations in manufacturing processes (hot or cold), grades of stainless material, plating, quality control, price and batch traceability/certification.

Now just about anyone can go onto the international marketplace, purchase a bulk load of fasteners and then put them into packs for a particular car, motorcycle or other application. It can appear a high margin business opportunity and a seductive offering to enthusiastic vehicle owners.

The question you should be asking of these suppliers is what is the specification of the stainless steel fasteners that they are offering for sale (exactly what are you getting for your money) and can they email you a copy of their QA certification including - Mill certificate for the original stainless steel material - who produced it and where/when? Chemical and mechanical testing (stress and rupture tests) carried out, heat treatment and coatings/plating - always useful if parts fail and legal people start asking questions?

You might just find that some of the cheap, far eastern produced, stainless steel fasteners on offer might just turn out to have been made from cheese when it comes to testing.

Cosmetic appearance is one thing and stainless steel fasteners look great on vehicles. However think carefully about fastening life dependent components together - especially brake callipers.
