Oh, that's interesting - I've just sent them an email to complain as it's no better than the standard BT unlimited broadband internet i've had for years. e.g. you tube videos seem to hang / buffer repeatedly and the connection to the router drops off frequently. Not impressed

Not only here then !
Got Infinity a month ago and it's rubbish. Drops the connection regularly and the speed is no better than unlimited - exactly as Captain Slow has found. And after three days it does settle down, slow and unreliable. Ive always stuck with bt phone and broadband , got 2 lines with both broadband , and always found them very good in always

Must be a BT thing then, I have Zen Internet's Fibre offering and am getting good speed.
I am a long way from the exchange and struggled to get 1Mbit before switching to fibre. At work we have BT Business Fibre as a test line and we are at the grim reaches of distance and still get ~35mbit |

As far as I know there are only two fibre networks anyway bt and virgin so any you get will be one of these anyway
and most of that is only between exchanges and exchange to cabinet not into homes |

I was getting 75mb down and 18mb upload speeds with Infinity, so very happy. In the last few months it's dropped to around 55mb down (same upload speed). Still ok for me.

Broadband speed is not a universal given and can depend on many many things - not least how many people are using it, not just in your house, but in your general area / exchange. I went from 6Mbps down/1Mbps up to 35Mbps down/11Mbps up so I'm happy, but if my daughters are streaming TV etc before I get connected, the speeds suck.... 2013 Aintree Green 110 Station Wagon SX

I think there will be limits for most of us for sometime yet as 99% of broadband will be using copper wires somewhere along the way . unless you live in a town/city etc
we live down a lane with only few houses and cant see them bothering to put it down here , ok it may be put down the main road and a cabinet put at the end of lane , but bet we will have copper from there to house for many years to come |

Exactly as Munch 90 has said, BT Infinity only works if the fibre optic cable is complete from your house to the exchange if it connects to any of the older type copper wire you will get drop off. Of course BT does not tell you this.

they offered me fibre at more money of course , but I know for sure there is no fibre near here
but to be honest its fine for what we need |

45.80 mb/s download 15.85 mb/s upload with Talk Talk fibre optic
20.25 mb/s download 2.61 mb/s upload with Virgin fibre optic. We have 2 broadband connections into the house , one to the office and one to the house , if one is off-line we can switch and carry on working. The price for both is roughly the same and both come from the same cabinet at the end of the street. I assume Talk Talk use the same cable as well but the difference is remarkable . |

Virgin Fibre optic is a network not a direct cable feed. So the more people who use the network the slower the speed is.
I am on EE and I have used the same provider since 1992, it used to be Freeserve then went to Wanado then Orange and finally EE. I have unlimited usage and I get Free phone calls all for £10.90 a month plus line rental which means to me that I save a small fortune on phone calls which more than pays for the broadband . No other provider can match the deal I am on. My speeds are roughly 1.5 mb but bearing in mind I live in a fairly remote area, that speed is adequate for streaming films and watching catch up TV. |
