Are the new fobs backwards compatible if programmed to earlier models of Puma?

As far as Ive been told they are fully compatible with the 10AS units once coded but I've just emailed a contact in a dealership parts dept to make sure, get back to you soon Steve. Rolling Eyes

I'm waiting to hear back just now, in the meantime I'm going try to find someone in my area with a Nanocom and see if we can code the keys in.

Jomara (John) very kindly gave me the 2 key fobs as he has done a deal with the dealers Wink

Big thanks to John for the fobs and sorry I kept you gabbing for so long Embarassed

Any ways once I got home I noticed that they were the 434mhz version were as the frequency on my 2009 10AS is 433.90 mhz. With this in mind today I got out the laptop and MSV and attempted to code them to my Puma.

I relearned the 2 OEM fobs and they were coded in 3 presses of the lock button. I gave up on the new fobs after 40 presses. So I then swapped out the batteries on both new fobs after checking the voltage of the new batteries on a DMM. They use the same battery as the old fob, CR2032.

With new batteries fitted I tried again to pair them to the 10AS with no luck. Next option is to do a RF test on the 10AS which allows any similar frequency non paired fob to operate the CDL when enabled. Again the 2 oem fobs worked but the new fobs did not, so I now knew what I suspected when I originally noticed the different frequencies, they don't work on my Puma. Sad

I let John know so he could have them back and he has suggested we offer them to a forum member for a small donation to Martin plus postage. They will work on any LR alarm system on 434mhz, Evoque and the new 2.2 TDCi Pumas are two LR's that I am aware off. If anybody wants them pm me your details and I will get them off to you soon as.

That's a shame they don't work. Sad
I wish there was all in one keys that had a better design than those currently available.
I.e. A more square design would be much much more appealing to me and IMO suits the Defender better.
I like these ( key on the right)

You going to have the ecu chipped or use as a spare for visits to the dealer.

Yes bought them to try and see if they were programmable to the 10AS unit, thanks to Brian's help we now know they aren't backward compatible!! Brian has the 2 new style fobs drop him a PM and he will arrange something with you.

So they won't work with a 2013 2.2 Puma?

I bought them for my 2013 which had the original Lucas fobs but passed them along to Brian when I changed my car to a 14 model, Brian has all the diagnostic kit to pair them but found they're not compatible with the 10AS units in the 13 and previous cars:-( 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

It seems then the new fobs will only work on a Defender which came with the new style fobs from the factory. Previous to that it won't work.
