I have not read the article in the press release BTW as I don't listen to that Censored .

My thoughts For what it worth If you drive a 200 or 300 please don't read on as you are going to be very upset Thumbs Up

It will have various engine options from big power to electric/diesel eco.

It will have a solid/fixed mounted electric powered rear diff with independent suspension.

Three body sizes/lengths each with different trim levels ie farmer, standard then posh giving 9 base options that can then be specked up or down.

When off road it will make all the other LR products look like a duck on smack trying to cross an ice covered lake.

We (The Public) will be able to mod the body to suit various work requirements.

It wont leak

It WILL be quiet

It will be reliable

It will be a very nice vehicle Thumbs Up

If this is the case, i'll order one Thumbs Up, but i'll never sell my 90 Td5 2001 Td5 CSW (weekend and snow mobile) Plenty of lights, M/T tyres EGR delete, roofrack, swing away wheel carrier, snorkel.

I like the green square short wheel based 'box'

we have to be realistic and accept that our beloved vehicle cannot be made to fit current and future regulations economically. or put another way. very few of us would be prepared to pay range rover prices for a defender and with diminishing sales that is where the price would be heading.

I am looking for something that is the same size as the defender, has some of the features of the defender like the slab sides and rear, the wheel arches, the alpine windows and the distinctive roof shape.

I like the look of the front of the defender and whilst it is an evolution of the original design it has come on a long way but it is never going to satisfy the safety requirements for a current vehicle and as for the bumper... modern cars have to have a 'soft' front that both absorbs impact and deflects a body up and over a car rather than bouncing it forwards.

I use my defender for work and tow with it every day. I like the way it tows and I like the simplicity of the vehicle.

the problem that jlr face is that there are not enough of us like minded souls buying and they cannot achieve the economies of scale with the current design.

if we want to see the defender continue into the future we have to be prepared to compromise enough so that it appeals to the mass market and unfortunately that will mean having lots of features that the jap 4x4s have.

few of want to see full leather, electric seats, sat nav, head up display etc. if we wanted that we would buy a freelander or something. however I would not want to be without my heated seats, air conditioning, heated front screen, electric windows and central locking and these all fly in the face of what the defender is about.

shoot me down when you are ready

Everything is relative in life! Change is what keeps us a species fresh, the trouble is those who have lived with the old often have difficulty adapting to the new, and it will be the same with the ‘New Defender’.

But after a while we will grow accustomed to the new design, we will adjust. I feel that the problem of the new is that Land Rover has been slow to change the Defender over more than two decades, because let’s face it with the exception of the bonnet, push button doors and a very slight change to the inner frame of the front doors and glass of the back door the Defender has not altered over much in shape since 1984. I can think of no other vehicle that has remained almost the same for so long.

I often wonder what some owners of the original Series 1 Land Rovers (who sadly have now passed away) would make of the new Defender XS models with their many refinements, array of body colours and leather seats or indeed what they would make of the ‘luxury’ vehicles that companies like ‘FCX’ produce, or ‘Urban Truck’.

I have driven all models of Land Rover and all put a smile on my face, even the ‘ Evoque’ and I am sure that whatever shape or design the new Defender may come in that will do the same.

It's still as much a mystery as ever isn't it. Not a single clue from JLR,...NOTHING.
Not even anything on "Final Editions" etc, & then of course there'll be Final Order "Dates"?
But as things unravel, 2015 should be somewhat interesting.

I agree that there crap
But doesn't matter where it comes from as long as I have an order placed.

I've bought three Defenders from them and service has been questionable.
I have thought of placing an order with likes in Brecon but sometimes the unknown can be worse.
At least on Penarth road they know I don't like to be messed about.

Front bit looks pretty good though!

Assuming JLR do continue with the proper defender production overseas this has lead to to an interesting problem but also a relief.

The relief being that if they continue to make the proper defender it is very good news for us as it would mean that part availability will remain and may even get better!

Currently, if I have a problem with my defender I just type in for example, defender clutch judder 200Tdi and then get a lot of 99% relevant results. If i look for accessorys or videos or pictures you say defender and everyone knows what you meen. In the future though with the amount of publicity and launching the new defender will have, whats the betting it is going to be much harder to find information or just get the right vehicle?

I can see things like automated form generators having issues when I say "I need x for a defender" and they say "sorry defenders only came out this year they didn't build them before that?"
