Injector Restricted fault codes
Hi

I have a full set of 'Injector Restricted' fault codes. One for each cylinder Shocked

P02A8
P02A0
P029C
P02A4

Any ideas what causes this and how to fix it?

(I also have the P1935 Brake circuit error)

1935 - 14
Brake switch sensor signal

I got these on a new remap file whilst doing some testing, rail pressure was a bit high. Remove the remap and clear the dtc's, go for a run and see if they reappear. If no dtc's logged re install remap and go for a run, if they reappear get the tuner to send you a new remap file with a lower rail pressure. Thumbs Up

Thanks for this .. I'll give its a go on my way to work tomorrow. I suppose that this could also explain why suddenly I have black smoke under heavy acceleration. Haven't changed the remap, just suddenly started happening. 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X

It's a remap I got from Pete at BAS about a year ago. I haven't had and issues with it and done about 25k miles since then. Just recently it's felt a little rough, underpowered and chuffing out some black smoke under power.

I've taken the remap off tonight ready for a run early tomorrow 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X

Hi

I've been in contact with Pete today via email. He's abroad so fair play to him for bothering to try and help me.

Last night I took off the remap and did my trip to work with the standard map. I had a few codes appear including p0404 and p0606. I then eventually also got the injector code faults. Pete suggested that it may be an EGR fault eventhough I only changed it last year 20k miles ago. So, I am going to put the remap back on and blank off the EGR to start with (it's also disabled through the remap). The other cause could be the VCV, but I'm going to try this first. 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X

The dtc's p0404 and p0606 are common untested dtc's which appear all the time. What tool did you use to read them? If it was the remap interface then it doesn't differentiate between type. If you have the ability too monitor live data check the fuel rail pressure and the MAF sensor. You may have more than one issue. The appearance of excessive black smoke could be the MAF sensor failing or has failed. (There are tons of posts on here about how it works so no need for me to retype it all out here.) The EGR is closed by remap so unless it has failed completely and the valve is stuck open I doubt this is the issue. However again this is easy to check, my Puma with an Alive tuning remap file allows the EGR to go through its cleaning cycle on engine shut down and I beleive the BAS remap allows the same, do you hear the 5 x chukka chukkas from the EGR valve? If you hear this then there is a very good chance the EGR is not to blame as the valve is closed.

Look at the possible causes of this class of dtc (ie, P029C00: Cylinder 1 balance - (injector 1) restricted Injector) :

Causes:
Injector leak
Low cylinder compression
Blow-by past the injector, glow plug
Mechanical fault, valve, piston/ring,
Injector fault

Action:
Check the injector and surrounding area for evidence of fuel leakage. Disconnect the injector and check for evidence of fuel leakage in the connector. Rectify as necessary.
Clear the DTCs.
Reconnect the injector and start the engine. Allow to warm up and allow to idle (cylinder balance diagnosis is now active).
If the DTC resets, check for blow-by etc. and rectify as necessary.
Clear the DTCs and recheck.
Carry out a compression test only if the DTC resets.
If the above tests are all within range, install a new injector.

Hi .. thanks for your reply

I used the remap tool to check the DTCs. I'm without anything better until santa comes with an UltraGauge. Also live data is difficult to get, however, I'll have a go with DashCommand on my phone.

There is no visible sign of a leak from anywhere. Today I have blanked the EGR. I wasn't getting the cleaning cycle from the EGR with the remap in place, so decided to blank it anyway. Still have black smoke.

If I need to check the cylinder compression what kit do I need and what's the process? (used to doing this on petrol engines but not so familiar with diesel) 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X

Personally I would now replace the MAF sensor and clean the MAP sensor before doing anything else.

if your getting a new maf don't get a cheap one , go for bocsh or you ever makes the one oe fitted

cheap ones never seem to read right

sometimes cleaning the maf will give it a another lease of life , remove it, good clean with brake cleaner spray don't dip it in a pot of brake cleaner ! ,MAKE SURE ITS DRY BEFORE REFITTING

Anywhere from 14 - 20 g/s at tick over up to 150 g/s at 2500 rpm
