Laminated Door Glass
Hi Guys,

Just postulating here but has anyone ever fitted laminated glass to there doors?

Seems like a good way to put some added strength and security into a door.

I'm guessing would just need a sheet of 4mm laminated glass then cut to shape and bevel the sides.

Any reasons why not?

Has anyone ever heard of doing it or had a go?

Dog

if there was a accident and door wont open (on your roof etc ) it would be harder to get out

also would the glass put up with slamming the door ? don't know

Laminated side windows are becoming more common in vehicles but retrofitting is not simply a matter of finding some laminated glass and having it cut to suit. Most laminated glass is 5mm or thicker so fitting it in the door window channels would be difficult if not impossible. Side glass also has different requirements to windscreens, it is not always supported all the way round the edge and may flex when the door is closed, which can crack standard laminated glass, this means that the glass although laminated still needs to be tempered.

It's illegal to put laminated door glass in vehicles as it isn't strong enough for side glass, when it gets hot it's very weak and will crack easily.
