Defender Coffee Table Book?
Following on from the brilliant collection of photos posted here http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic35913.html can someone at Land Rover customer relations put it to Land Rover merchandise/marketing/most appropriate to produce a high quality book all about the defender production?

I'm sure every Defender owner would be interested in a nice well presented hardback bound Defender book with lots of photos, details and really get into the nitty gritty of the defender. Maybe different sections about early builds, introduction of new engines, bodystyles all the way through to the final production. Would need to have lots of good quality photos of production lines but also some good drawings and sketches too. Make it the sort of book that celebrates everything about Land Rover. Defender: Building a legend 1983-2015 sort of thing.

Could someone start this discussion?

Thank you for your time, I know we ask a lot of you but your responses are valued even if they are not always the response we want to hear Smile Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Yes, they should do this BIG TIME.
I reckon they should also produce a DVD showing every aspect of Defender production, & I mean EVERYTHING, from pressing the panels, sourcing bits etc, to rolling off the line, transport to Dealer etc,...EVERYTHING.
I actually got on to the media section of the JLR site & sent an email to the most senior person I could see, but I got no reply,...which was not unexpected?

Sounds like a good idea. I have a fair few books on the history of the Series/Defender vehicles, so it would be nice to add. A thorough, in-depth history of the entire model 1948 to now would also be good, but no doubt expensive and difficult to collate. 2011 110 USW

At least 3 buyers lined up then Thumbs Up

I'm sure Land Rover could make or commission a really good book with lots of detail and lots of really good high quality photos and drawings, anecdotes and stories from the people who work there - past and present!

Could do at least a chapter on the Camel Trophy Series, Military usage, Utilities, Special Events, Royalty- Land Rover has through the Defender gained notability in such a wide range of industries and users, it deserves to be celebrated!

I'm not talking a £30 20 page book, I mean a proper thunking great 200+ page book, well researched and presented.

I'm sure Land Rover could do something like this Thumbs Up Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Yes it needs to be a "GOOD" book.
AMG did a similar thing a couple of years ago,...History & every model, engines, developments, etc etc, a beautiful book, cost $100+,...AMG couldn't keep up with the demand!
Pickles.
A few emails to JLR please guys.

It should include pictures that are unique to the book and not "library pictures". Would be good to have details from engineers working on development and testing.
I would give a book a good home.

I think this is an excellent idea. I'd certainly buy it, and I know quite a few others who would do likewise.

There are shedloads of photos in the Gaydon archive that nobody has ever seen. I have tried a few times to get to see some and never succeeded. Comms just break down. It would be nice if JLR could do something about that in general, and specifically for any upcoming book.

James Taylor has done several very nice books on the series/defender vehicles, but they are often "just enough" info to be interesting, as some minor things will always be dropped for publication. It is these little snippets I find most interesting. 2011 110 USW

A definitive Land Rover Defender book is a great idea and I do not wish to sound likes the devil’s advocate, but I feel such a publication will never emerge because a 200 page book as suggested containing unpublished photos, drawings, little bits of inside information, engineer’s anecdotes, and history would take a very long time to research, compile and edit and would have to be undertaken by someone who has skills in composing such books and I cannot see any author taking on such a project for such a limited and specialist market. Then production costs of printing and distributing would have to be offset against sales which would be unknown, so for anyone to take on such a venture would be a financial gamble and high risk.
Perhaps if we are lucky Land Rover may at the demise of production publish such a thing but I doubt it. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

G'Day Pete from Aus.
A DVD detailing the Defender's TOTAL production process, from pressing panels to delivery to customer would be good too. better get on to that NOW though, because there ain't much more time,....surely this would be a relatively simple item to produce, and it would be IMMENSELY popular?
I've already put this request to the most senior person I could find (by email) on JLR's UK site, but not unexpectedly, I received no reply?
