Went and checked mine, does not touch. Comes reasonably close.
With the bonnet is closed, there is ¼ inch at the back on the driver side (right hand drive) between bonnet and wing and 3/16th on the passenger side. It looks like the bulkhead side of the bonnet hinges are in a fixed position, the only variable is the position of the wing.. Am sure this can be corrected by unbolting and pushing the wing down a bit, but would probably be more hassle than it is worth. Has it marked the paint in that spot on your car? |

Thanks Takthi.
It hasn't actually scratched the paint, just slightly marked/scuffed/rubbed it, so I've placed some black tape over the mark! Pickles. |

Could be your plastic bush is worn on that side of the bonnet hinge causing it to drop. It shouldn't be with the age of your 90, but is possible. Presuming its the wing top your talking about?
There so easy and cheap to replace though so I do it at services anyway, not worth letting it drop to damage the paint. Just another option i'd be checking; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-SERIE...359eaa665e Defender puma dormobile camper |

Thanks for that info, but I hope it's not those bushes, ...the bonnet's probably only been opened & shut 20 times?
In my case, I think there's a larger rough edge/ "spot", just on the corner of the bottom edge of the bonnet, which protrudes a bit, & which slightly touches the paint as the bonnet "shakes" as it closes, when you drop it down. Thanks, Pickles. |

isn't the wing top bolted on that the back by the bolt that sticks out under the bonnet ( strip of metal sticks out at nearly same level as wing top right at the back corner ) . could that be loosened and the wing top be pushed very carefully down and tightened back up
whats the other side like ? |

Mine was that bad on the near side it was touching when closed and rubbing the paintwork on the wing...
Dealer suggested there was no play and no adjustment available to rectify it... I said don't be so silly, it is clearly not right, and told them to take it away and sort it out... This they did and the gap is now perfect all the way round the bonnet... I did not ask them how or what they did, and I probably don't want to know either... They just have to sort the paintwork out where it was rubbing now... Rog... The GREEN One... MY2016 Urban Truck Build Thread - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40548....al[/color] |

Mine rubs now after 12 years of people up on the bonnet, for mine it is due to the metal hooks welded to the bulkhead. Over time they have dropped, after all metal bends when big fat people stand on it plus my younger son using it as a climbing frame, he thinks that I don't know but it is all ammunition for later. Some gentle persuasion will need to happen in the future involving hammers, whether it's on the boy or the bulkhead, time will tell.

Due to their bolt together nature the whole wing assembly can be adjusted and realigned to a certain degree as can the bonnet catch. Once upon a time Defenders had adjustable buffers on the underside of the leading edge of the bonnet too. Steve.

The hinge bushes are concentric and can be turned for small adjustments
