Mig welder...??
Hi, got a bit of welding to do on my old series 2 chassis (new front outriggers, new rear cross member!!). Looking to get a mig welder with approx £250 - 300 budget.

Any one got any suggestions as to a half-decent make/model for this sort of money??

something like this , for me would be sealey before Clarke

eBay item number:

eBay Item No. 290406179943

to be honest your not going to get a top make for that budget (kempii , Lincoln, boc, murex etc) your in the sealey/Clarke budget (hobby not professional )

but you can get good results still , good welding is down to good preparation , nice clean metal (more so with mig than stick arc ) get comfortable and something to rest your torch arm on to steady it

don't buy the max amp you can get for the money and stay clean of unknown makes

amps your need at a guess 130-150max this would still good for much thicker than a land rover chassic , don't forget duty cycle will go down as you go up in amps , doubt this would be a problem with amount of welding your do in one weld on a chassic

and if possible get some spare metal the same thickness as your going to weld to get used to welder and get welder set up before you start (might save a few blow holes in weld!) sorry if you know how to weld just trying to be helpful if you don't

+1 for R Tech - I have one of thier TIG's and it does what it says on the tin. I do use a proper bottle of Argon from BOC though.

I have one never used apart from a practice weld. Am i too far away? Cant remember what make it is though or what I paid for it. Like i said its practically new and it would be cheap. Pm id of interest and i can see what it is!!
