Bulkhead repair panels
Its got the point where I need to get the bulkhead repaired. A quick hunt gave me this repair section

http://www.yrmlandrover.com/epages/BT3575....ducts/001A

this partly appeals to me as it would remove another water ingress and a source of draughts point on the Landy, but another part of me thinks its ok with the vents.

in replacing this section, things that need removing off the top of my head
Windscreen wipers
Bulkhead brackets
Windscreen
Roof (to get the windscreen out)
Washer jets.
Door hinges

Does the dash need removing or any other part of the dash? 1999 Defender TD5 110

you wont need to take the roof off completely, when i have done it there has been enough space to get the windscreen (with frame) out with the roof in situ, but roof needs undoing above B pillars and gentle lifting.

dash top certainly, plus any wiring in behind - wiper motor is lower down on on tdi but behind dash on td5 (not sure what you have) if later that will need to come out

where do the wiper spindles go? - need drilling.

to get wiper spindles out must of upper dash need to come out - its a RPITA job for what it is.

bonnet and new lip to weld on? or does it go to the existing - if so check water trap there with weld in there?

edit: to add, it could be better to cut the bonnet lip off the old one and weld it to the new part prior to fitting, depending on depth of material (assuming the repair panel goes past the lip point and they havent made that the join) Cheers

I was wondering about the spindles. Can they not just be unbolted from the outside, cut out the old bulkhead and then remove and refit without the need to remove the spindles?
The wiper motor is on the passanger side, behind a panel (prob same as a Tdi)
Is the bulkhead boxed i,e is there a panel behind the dash then a gap and then the outer panel?

Edit. Found this link on the YRM website

If you are going to the length of repair panels and the work involved it might work out easier to replace the bulkhead completely. Buy a used bare example, spend some time sorting the issues out on that and then fit 110 D250 SE HT

I'd love to replace the whole bulkhead but no workshop/garage/drive coverage. Sad 1999 Defender TD5 110

spindles, you could do on reflection but does the new panel not need welding in along the top edge?

yes its boxed and twin layered in some places if i recall.

before the bulkhead prices went through the roof i did some repair panels on one truck, soon after i did a bulkhead change on another truck, the latter was quicker! and easier.

now prices have gone up so much it may be more £££ saving to do the panels but personally i would change the bulkhead. if its gone in one place chances are another will show itself before too long. Cheers

The panel will need welding across the top and looking at the picture on YRM it looks like there are holes in the top to weld through.

At the mo, I just dont have the cash to buy a decent bulkhead, paint it and pay someone to strip the Landy down to replace the bulkhead - otherwise I would 1999 Defender TD5 110
