2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 HT Baltic Blue
20k and the faults so far....
So my 2.2 90 HT has reached 20k this month and I'd like to say it's been trouble-free, but I would be lying!

Replaced and repaired so far:
EGR
Rear callipers
PAS pump & belt tensioner
Clutch
Gearbox selector bushes
Gear stick and selector
Windscreen seal
Bulkhead seal
Coolant pressure cap
Swivel sea
Handbrake cable tensioner
Door seals
Window mechanism
Door locks

Plus of course the obligatory intercooler pipe recalls and ECU updates!

Suspect the next item will be DPF related given the current issues and wondering what the next 20k will bring! Hmmmm, thats not mud....

Current:
Defender 110 HD Utility (Special Vehicles)
Freelander 2 HSE
BMW E23 735i

Ex:
2013 Defender 90 2.2
1998 Discovery 300TDi
1972 Series II 2.25
1980 Series III 2.25

It really is horrible how inconsistent they are with build "quality" - never ceases to amaze me. I wonder if the new one will be any better... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

All down to not being built by robots but on a production line manned by humans using processes rhat have changed little over the decades. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW.

Plodster, look at it like at least your dealer is willing to do such work. It would not surprise me dealers use warranty to keep the workshop turning when times are quiet, or they have a special like to you and are keen to have your truck 100%. It could just be being hand made you and I received cars made on a day no one was interested. I was amazed how much stuff went into mine in the first 100 000. ECU, transfer box, EGR, starter motor, an ignition, two immobilisers, key barrel, couple clutches, couple door locks, door rubbers, suspension rubbers, gear box robbers, floor matt, and a fair bit more just cant recall really. Odly enough after the 3 years was up it's been trouble free seemingly having been finished off by the dealer and reliable at last.

It can be frustrating, but as long as you have a loan car, who cares what LR do to it under warranty. I'm pretty confident there was no profit left on mine for them. I didn't ever drive a hard line, just noticed stuff and they went nuts. Still I'll probably by another LR as I am impressed with the warranty. Other marks have similar issues, but you do hear getting warranty is like blood from a stone. At least we find it amusing to some degree. My Defender and travels

This thread made me think about mine, a 2007 2.4 110 now at 7 years and 150k miles:-

Parts replaced due to failures/malfunctions-

Front diff
Front halfshafts and drive flanges
ROS hub oil seal
Rear halfshafts and drive flanges (twice)
Clutch assy (now on fourth clutch)
Rear propshaft UJs
Transfer box rear oil seal and handbrake shoes (twice)
Transfer box
Dip/indicator switch
Light switch
Wiper park switch
Windscreen (due to large rock, not LR's fault!)
Front disks and calipers (wear and tear, not really a defect)
Volume control valve
Fuel tank breather
Driver side seat base foam
Coolant pressure cap
Sump pan
Intercooler pipe

In addition it has had regular service parts and consumables such as brake pads. It is on its second set of tyres (I love BFG Muds, 100k miles from a set)!

On the "to do" list at the moment: the ROS brake is dragging and so I probably need new rear calipers, the rear disks are about due for replacement, the weather strips on all four doors need replacing and the radiator is weeping and needs replacement.

Is this bad? I don't really think so. The vehicle works hard and has done a high mileage, and I love it to bits (at least most of the time). It still puts a smile on my face.

By comparison at this age and mileage my Disco 2 had had one clutch changed (due to DMF judder not wear) and that was all.

(Editted to add a few things I'd forgotten).

I guess you don't name it right. These are all not faults, it is just socializing and selecting it's driver by getting you used to repair, care and maintenance. Would you like a car, which accepts the worst lunatic driving it? Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

Replaced parts
Mine 2009 MY and has done 51k miles. Replaced following.

*front differential
*front differential oil seal
*clutch, pressure plate
*Four Injector bottom washers
*front and rear brake pads
*front wipers.
*intercooler hose

It's not a Toyota. It's a Landrover so no surprise. But I am enjoying it!
