Traction control Td5
I am trying to work out if the traction control is working on my 110 Td5.

I happened to have one wheel jacked up to ease draining the gearbox but before I did I thought I would see if the traction control was working by engaging drive slowly. The traction control light was illuminating and I could hear it chattering away but I expected the vehicle to try and drive forward but didn't go anywhere.

Handbrake was on mind, but I expected it to at least have it try and pull forward a bit.

Was it working properly?

Blimey, that seems a brave way to check the TC..Smile

I'd go and find a bit of loose gravel and try it there. You can also try the ABS on a quiet bit of road.

I did both of these with my TD5 after I changed the modulator and it worked fine.

I'm not sure how much speed you need to have TC kick in, so may not work in your scenario above.

You're probably better off trying it out in a cross axle situation, try climbing a large rock without difflock, the traction control should try to brake the wheel/s that are next to leave the ground and you can feel this occouring from the drivers seat.

Not brave really. The wheel was just off the ground and not much in the way of throttle.

I think curiosity got the better of me. I will try and find a crossaxle situation to see if the TC assists in reality but having one wheel artificially off the floor is essentially the same thing.

From having a bit more of a search on t'internet this evening it seems that the TC works better with a bit of revs which makes sense and I wasn't keen to give it a bootfull of revs on the drive.

I will do some more playing.

Your wheel has to be spinning minimal 7 km/hr as I recall right so you need some throttle input before it starts working. Roel
