TGV - snapped belt
just after an opinion really, belt snapped on my TGV at about 2200rpm. 4 push rods broken and one rocker snapped.

Should i pull the head to check valves?

new rocker shaft?

TGV is 2.8 ver of the 300tdi. i am guessing as valves are direct overhead that i could of got away without damaging them? Cheers

I'd want to take the head off to check that everything else is ok!

No, it will be fine. Had a 300tdi that snapped a belt last week, bent all 8 push rods and snapped 2 rockers, despite the customers friends and family telling him it would definitely have bent valves etc I fitted a new belt new rods and rockers and it fired first turn of the key, done 4 or 5 like this now and not seen one damage valves yet.

i have heard 50/50 either way. with overhead vertical valves i am thinking it will be ok.

just realised i need more parts now! typical - need the bolts that adjust down onto the push rod, had a bent one i didnt notice! Cheers

As the bottom of the valves are parallel to the piston crowns, then you shouldn't have any bent valves.

Just get a piece of wood/hammer handle and push each valve down, check it's free to move and doesn't have any tight spots, and pops back up again as soon as you release the piece of wood.

I've had several belts snap, 200 and 300's, and (touch wood) never had a bent valve... not to say that it couldn't happen mind!
