Diff wear
I have been trying to isolate the wear in the drive train of my 110 Td5 for some time now and have moved on to the rear diff.

There is one hell of a clunk when taking up drive and I have changed the rear A-frame ball joint and the rear drive flanges but things aren't as good as they should be.

I took this video of the rear Salisbury diff so someone more knowledgeable than me might be able to note if there is any wear in it. The handbrake is on, and the rear offside wheel has been jacked off the floor in the video, the wheel being rotated from one direction to another.

And yes I should get out more....

Don't know, looks fairly normal to me.

Salisbury Diffs are quite clunky I have found.

If however you do decide to get it rebuilt i would be very interested to see how it turns out Smile

Hi,

I'm getting clunking from the drive train as well checked the props tonight and the rear prop was solid, I.e. No movement at all (held on the transmission brake and in gear).

Front prop though I was able to rotate a quarter turn or so.

Hard to figure if it's worth doing anything about until it gets really bad......

Interested also in who you use to refurb your diff.

Cheers

To my uneducated eye I thought it didn't look too bad either.

I know that the transfer box is a bit tired but didn't think that this would cause the symptoms I've been having.

I've heard that rebuilding the blighters is tricky......

I think the 110 is suffering from typical Land Rover wear whereby a little bit of wear in all the components adds up to big knocks and bangs through the transmission. I had a lift in a friends 3 year old 110 a couple of months ago and it was nearly as bad.

Yeah, I'm figuring it's better to let it develop into something obvious then sort it!!
