2010 Puma not starting. Divine intervention required
I had to replace my PCM after it developed a dead short. (The short was with the lower harness connected on the PCM) See my post here: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30415.html

My very competent and well respected independent is battling to get the lump to start. Trust me, we have applied all the advice from this forum and others.. alarm (tested with another ECU), checking harness, relays etc. Fuel Pressure is fine and diesel clean. System bled as well. He has access to the Land Rover SDD system and everything is in order. New software, no sensor faults. The car cranks enthusiastically. All the right lights light up on the dash. The only faults/ remaining steps are calibrating the injectors and the pump but for that you need the engine to run. He has consulted experts from a dealership and Land Rover SA to no avail. Still dead. Prior to the PCM replacement the vehicle was running absolutely fine. It looks like the injectors are not opening. (No white smoke on cranking). and voltage is present at the injectors.

What have we missed? What else should be checked. Need some "divine" advice please. Getting desperate! Big Cry

Have you completed a DDS learn on the 10AS and PCM? They need to be learned to allow the engine to start. If that doesn't work drop me a pm and I will tell you how to bypass the immobiliser and that will at least take away the immobiliser as the cause of the non starting.

Im sure that the 2 units need to marry up as Lorryman says Im sure a diagnostics unit likes of the nanocom or similar with sort it out get both talking to each other

The DDS learn needs to be carried out in order for the PCM to accept the immobilisation code sent from the 10AS via the IPAC. If you replace either the 10AS or PCM without doing a DDS learn then the two units will not have been paired/synchronised and no matter how much cranking you do the engine won't start as the PCM has not received a valid immobiliser code from the 10AS. DDS learn can take up to 30 minutes to complete, and as it carries this learn out over the diagnostic line that the diagnostic tool uses there is a set procedure for doing this. The process is quite simple using SDD/IDS, nanocom, MSV2 etc etc.

The process:

1. Have the diagnostic tool connected in OBDII port open on the 10AS diagnostic page for DDS learn.
2. Switch off the ignition.
3. Start the DDS learn on the diagnostic tool.
4. Disconnect the diagnostic tool
5. Switch the ignition on
6. As I said earlier it can take up to 30 minutes for the process to complete, during this learn cycle the alarm LED mounted in the instrument cluster will flash quite rapidly. When the synchronisation and learn has completed the LED will stop flashing and the horn may beep quickly (dependant on 10AS settings page).
7. Start the engine.

If this does not work first time retry the process and let me know.
