Rear ended in my Defender - The Rebuild
Rubbish day on Thursday.

I was stationary, indicating right to turn when I was hit from behind by a Ford Galaxy.

You'll notice the bike. That was hit on its back box by the galaxy as it swerved, knocking off the cars LHS wing mirror.

The motorcyclist was a very lucky bloke.

I'm waiting for the damage assessment, however, new rear crossmember, new rear tub, wheel carrier, rear door and rear right side panel seems to be required. My thoughts are it will be close to a write off on a 2002 110.

Any thoughts or advice?

Depends on your insurance company, but your right there is more damage there than there initially looks. Hope is goes your way. Did you tap dance on the Galaxy driver?

Ensure that chassis is properly checked out along with the rear axle. Also get fuel tank and filler pipe checked outer it assessed by a Land Rover garage. Do NOT be bullied into going to other parties insurance company preferred repair centre.

Ouch, glad your ok tho,I think they will write it off (if you want them to).What condition was it in before? Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

This is one of my biggest fears. Sad Hope it all works out for you okay and as above applies too.
They charge for that even though no doubt, but worth it.

I had a similar one, and they fixed mine. Don't let your vehicle go to Cougar accident repair at Luton, they don't know their colours, or how to use a rivet gun properly. ( I sent mine back 3 times, it is still not 100%, but I don't have the patience)

Glad you are not hurt, get them to right it off, buy it back and get it re-chassied with a galv chassis and repaired and then keep it forever DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Censored ... that is an inconvenience. I'd be adamant I want it repaired. Surely the damage is not worth more than a 2002 110.

Buying it back from the insurers my not be all that easy. If it goes to open auction it may go for more than one expects with the end of Defender production not all that far away. If your insurer gives you first opportunity to buy at a price they feel is fair, then one also has the huge job or swapping and rebuilding what they find along the way in the process. Plus one need the space, time, and tools to do so.

Ouch that's a bad do Big Cry ! I've never seen a crossmember bend that much or split, so must have been quite a heavy knock! Having said that, looking at the pictures it looks like the crossmember wasn't far off needing some work anyway, so at least you'll have a nice solid new one afterwards or even better a new galv chassis depending on whichever way you end up going with it Smile Pete
