Bikes & Defenders?
Granted I'm new here, but amazed at how many fellow defender owners also ride/own bikes! I own a BMW R1200 GS (obviously best bike in the world) so who owns what?
Here's mine

I have a repsol cbr600rr. Now looking for. Gs adventure. But at only 5'8" in struggling with seat height. So think I'll be buying a low seat before I buy a bike so I can at least road test one lol

I had a 2010 600rr for 3 years and also looked at a GS. Was given an S1000RR and a 1200GS for the weekend. The BMW sports bike was absolutely mental. I'm also 5'8 and the height of the GS wasn't an issue at all. The GSA is slightly taller but don't let it bother you

Mate of mine is 5'8" & rides a GSA without any problems, I'm 5'10" ( on a good day) & have the Touratech lowered seat - it's probably a bit too low but the reassurance factor of being able to (almost) put down both feet flat on the floor is not to be underestimated Very Happy Urban truck defender 90

When i bought my gs 1200, BMW sourced Wilber Shocks for me so I could have it and at 5,6 it fitted me lovely.
the shocks fitted cost me an extra £800 pound but it was great.
I'm informed that there is now a factory fit dwarf kit at no extra cost.

“dwarf kit”

Love it… thought I’d get that comment in before you’re taken out and shot by the PC Police.

Peter (also looking for a newish dwarf bike, torn between a Guzzi, Harley or Bonnie, probably settle on the last 'cos the dealer's closest)

Did you go straight from the Honda to the gs? How was the transition for you?

I now hate my Honda. It was the worst bike I've ever bought. Mainly because of the depreciation. I've had it exactly a year now and covered 1400 miles. I looked at a brand new fire blade urban tiger and the Honda dealer I bought my bike from was really pleased to offer me £4k less than I paid for it AND they wanted me to pay for the service before I traded it in. I'll never buy Honda again!!!! I'm now sick of the sight of my bike because of this. I thought Hondas would hold value better.

Off the top of my head, I paid £7.5k including £1k of extras brand new and sold it back to a Honda dealer 3.5 years later for £5k. I didn't really know until after it was sold that the list price for these had risen so much.

When the bike was 1 year old I bought a new Harley 883 iron stage 2 and shortly before selling the cbr looked at various bikes but in the end didn't buy anything and decided to kit the Defender out for travel instead as we have a little boy and so bike tours wouldn't happen.

I did like the gs and it rode very well but many buy for the image. Unless you will actually use it on trail roads etc, there are better bikes to tour on. However if the budget doesn't stretch to a new one, buying a 7-8 year old 1200 and will lose very little on it.

GS is absolutely the best bike on the road Mr. Green but it has to be the 1150 Adv!

My back catalogue includes..

Aprilia Futura RSV1000
Suzuki GSX1400
BMW 1150GS Adventure
Kawasaki ZZR1400
BMW K1200GT

Probably done over 40,000 miles over the years mostly touring europe.

To add, looking on the GS forum, there is currently a 2007 GS, 30,000 miles with full luggage and great condition, listed at £4750. You could own it for a further 4 years and would be surprised if you couldn't easily get £3.5k for it.

I've just joined the gser forum. Loads to tempt me with lol. I'm never going to do the long way round or anything. But it would be nice to go away for weekends with the swimbo. Sports bikes are really a one person toy.
