2nd hand values of late low mileage commercial vehicles are currently near record highs at auction and supply is short so the general answer is no this is not a good time for buying , of course a bargain can slip through but you would have to be very lucky.

The industry expects prices to soften towards the end of the year as a raft of new vehicles come on stream from Renault, Vauxhall, Ford and Citroen with the new Transporter also likely in 2015.

If you buy right at auction you can probably save £500 - £1000 off a forecourt price but you can equally save that by buying privately.

I don`t know if you have been to the auctions before so if you have I do not wish to teach some one to suck eggs so to speak.

I was advised years ago, go to the auctions and have NO intention of buying anything just go for the experience, these can be fast moving places, it`s easy to get caught up in it all, set your self a limit. You don`t want to find your self bidding on the wrong vehicle, it does happen.

Have a good look at everything on the vehicle you want, make a list of your specs, stand well back from the vehicle look along the panel lines.
If you can look underneath it quite common for fleet companies to make a good van out of three or four.

I know this because I`ve been instructed by various firms over the the years to do just that, some where out there is an ldv maxus with no third gear it`s on another one, there`s just a machined spacer in the gear box, I made it.

So if it looks like there are spanner marks or something looks iffy walk away.

Best of luck with your search Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.
