Switzerland 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
Keep the LEDs or go back to standard?
Sometimes I am tempted to go back to original, so take the Speaker 8700 EVO off and sell, and put back the SVX clear Wipacs which are now in store with the upgraded Land Rover H4 bulbs (part number VPLDV0061) . Now that I also have the Landreiziger loom installed, the light output of the Wipac/H4 combination should be even better than before. All in the spirit of keeping things original....
Mind, I love the Speakers, the light output is second to none, and the condition remains as new, no corrosion, no moisture ingress, etc.
But the original looks have something going for it too I think... Confused

Nah - your SVX looks "hi-tec" anyway.

The Speakers suit it and, as you say, are better. Bulbs won't blow either and it's a PITA taking the lights out to change them (strictly speaking you should re-check alignment after this too).
Keep the Speakers and be happy Thumbs Up

Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Keep the LED's,for no other reason than you already bought and fitted them.I'd dump the SVX grill and surrounds in a heart beat if you want "traditional" tho Laughing . Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

The point really is that with the Landreiziger loom you have choices. Without the loom it is a no brainer, the LEDs are a must without rewiring.

Now all you need to do is decide what your taste is and go with that. ****CENSORED****

I think you’re right the svx do suit your truck

Perhaps I can help you make your mind up? I'm prepared to offer you a spare set of bulbs in exchange for the Speakers.

Eric, the DRLs in the bumper - did you install these aftermarket or is that a whole unit, i.e., bumper with integrated DRLs? --

Naks, (and to a certain extent also BPMan Wink ),
Those "horrible rectangular spots" you mention (and bpman acknowledges) are classic looking Hella fog lamps which I think suit the Defender very well and produce a perfect fog lamp sideways light spread, and do not dazzle oncoming trafic. I would be ready to put my SVX side by side with any other Defender with LED front fogs, and see which one is better. Cool
Apart from the excellent functionality, this model of Hella fogs (or more often the same model spot version) is still today often in use on Classic Range Rovers, and I see them often on early Defenders or Series III vechicles too.
So, it is clear that I like them a lot, actually I have three more sets of the same in storage for eventual future use. Shocked They are excellent value for money too if you buy them on amazon.com in the USA and bring them back in your luggage. Thumbs Up

As to your question about my DRL bumper.... It is an entire unit bought like that years ago from Alive Tuning. Again excellent quality, the inside has been Dinitrolled from new together with the rest of the truck, and can assure you, it remains as new.

Without causing offence or wishing to get into a heated debate, those fogs do have great functionality and you are undoubtedly their greatest advocator and ambassador, but the look and style of your headlights are insignificant in comparison.

On each of your pictures the eyes are naturally drawn to the fogs that don't look as if they belong!

Your truck has the potential to have a beautiful front end presentation why blemish it with two such pig ugly warts that belong in the 70s or 80s? Bin them and get some decent aesthetically pleasing ones that will enhance the look and possibly give you equal if not better functionality.

The JWS do look better too in my opinion. Whistle If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Mal, don't worry, not the slightest risk for a heated debate here....

I think the 70's or 80's look are a nice touch to even a "modern" euuhhh, .....Land Rover. Wink

And you will surely understand the notorious French expression that Les goûts et les couleurs ne se discutent pas. Thumbs Up

“truck…. beautiful front end”

Oxymoron? I wanted a beautiful front end, I bought a sports car. I needed a truck, I bought a Land Rover.

Some on here think you can have both, others - like me - just can’t see it. If Eric has made an effort to improve the pathetic light output of the standard lamps, fair play. I’ve just changed my bulbs to Osram thingies in an attempt to do just that, difference is marginal, though.

But to bling up a Defender imagining that its appearance has been magically transformed… nah.
