Puddle under fuel filter
Been away for a week, not used the Defender (59 Puma). Inserted the headlight relays today. Started it to check as main beam only comes on with ignition.

Noticed a wet stain on the floor under the fuel filter. The filter bracket is also wet with fuel. What could be the cause and how can I fix it?

make sure filter is twisted right on , sometimes the last bit can be tight

I had the same problem and realised at the last service they had fitted a non genuine fuel filter and the rubber had shrunk so fuel was slightly weeping from the seal. I fitted a genuine fuel filter and tightened properly and the problem was solved Wink

hmm..... Britpart or more fondly referred to as S**tpart

Will have to dig out my invoice to see if they claim to fit genuine LR which I seem to recall they did say they did

Wish I had gone to the dealer now as I only went indy to support them

Kmac, only shi** indy's will use sh** parts. Anyone with experience will know britpart filters are crap more often than not. I will only use genuine or oem filters as I don't find anything else is up to scratch and the price difference is so minimal it's not worth skimping.
Hope they sort it for you and good on you for supporting local garages (although it would seem you picked the wrong one Laughing )

Well I have checked their website and the invoice and they haven't put it in writing that they use genuine parts.
Service was in Nov 2013 so I'm just going to buy a genuine LR filter and replace it myself

Indy is Graham J Goodyer, was recommended on this very forum

I wouldn't bother getting main dealer part , just go for a good make , mahle,wix,mann,fram,coopers,stanadyne ( not crossland gone down hill used to be good )

make filter head is clean before removing filter , very easy to knock big lump of crap on to new filter when fitting

Word of warning....might be worth checking before driving as I know someone who didn't notice the puddle and a mile down the road broke down cos filter was empty and after that was pig to bleed fuel lines Whistle

and just in case , fill new filter with clean diesel before fitting

normally they leak because they not tightened the last notch as you twist it (last bit can be quite tight )

by hand with a bit of rag round to get a grip on it as it will have bit of diesel down the side of it
can use a oil filter tool ( the type that have a handle and metal strap and grip when you undo or do up ) BUT BE CAREFUL IF USING TOOL AS THE HOUSING ARE PLASTIC AND COULD TWIST IT RIGHT ROUND KNACKERING NEW FILTER AND HOUSING
good hand grip is normally all that's needed

This might be a silly question but can`t you fit a ford one it`s a transit looking filter head after all. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

If you,re struggling to get a grip on a fuel filter or oil filter use a bit of wet and dry paper with the abrasive side against the filter and your hands will be able to grip the paper side, This is useful on Td5 oil filters where there is restricted access. 2005 Td5 90 XS

transit ones are a bit longer and you can't fit the metal cover guard back on ,

but yes it's the same fitting
