locking pin for flywheel thru sensor hole , 6mm pins for cams and pump, timing is all easy really . pins in , sprockets centre of play ,chain on ,tensioner on , tighten sprockets while holding tension on chain

replace chain if done few miles
at least change tensioner and guides
front cover can be reused if you take your time and go round with thin blade to break sealer joint , thin blade tapped round with hammer does work

if you bent the timing cover replace it

If you look up timming setting for transit dura torq or ldv convoy its there to.
One of the easiest ones to do.
Just make sure when your doing the job the cam gears and pump are central in there adjustment holes ( where the three 13 mm or torx bolts are.) once operation carried out.
They seem to run better that way, especially on the older engines with a vp 44 injection pump fitted, older transit ones which will sooner or later find there way under a bonnet near you....... Very Happy

added bit more in post if it helps

you can get a locking kit for transit for 22 quid on the bay ( just make sure it's got the right pin for tdci flywheel , pin has step in the end of it )

I'm only needing to lock everything as I want to do a full strip down hopefully it could be head gasket but have a feeling it's the piston rings causing crank pressure

Do you have excessive crank case pressure / smoke coming from breathers, have you checked the breathers are clear, is your turbo ok. Has it had a cylinder leakage and or compression test done, just asking would`ent want to see someone diving in to deep off the bat so to speak.
These engines are pretty good bottom end wise.
