phone advice
I am becoming increasingly dissatisfied with both my Samsung, android and tmobile ee and am looking for an alternative currently I have 300 text 500min and 750meg and could use a bit more min and data. I will have to buy out of my contract so don't want to be spending lots on a phone and I also want to minimise the cost of the new contract so a free phone with a 40 plus quid contact is not really what I wanted. So which network and which phone? Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

I have the Google Nexus 5 (pure Android no Samsung bloatware) which is £299 and a £12/month giffgaff monthly tariff (250 minutes, unlimited data and texts).

If you do the maths thats the same as £28 on a 18 month contract or £21 on a 24 month contract, but the beauty is I have no contract and can change phone/provider/tariff when ever I want.

Its also worth looking at the BT SmartTalk app which allows you to make call on your home tariff (using data which in my case is unlimited) or Viber.

I use 3 who are rolling out 4g in my area on a sim only contract, unlimited data ( including tethering ) 2000 texts and 200mins for £12.50 a month and I just buy a phone for the best price I can find , no contract and no ridiculous cost for a phone over a 24 month contract.

Ok thank you guys. I have been reading up on your suggestions and tbh if I were at the end of my contract I would probably look at a sim only deal but by the time I have bought out of my contract my budget for a new phone would effectively only leave me looking at 2 or 3 generations back of phone or in other words where I'm at now. Cheers anyway. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

GiffGaff at £12 for unlimited data and texts (free GiffGaff to GiffGaff calls) and 250 mins. Can't beat it. They are part of O2 so the coverage is good.

You also get money back if you use their online forums, send SIMS to friends who then activate them etc.

Cheers

What's wrong with the current setup then? Might help us to identify a solution more suitable?

It's a Samsung galaxy s2 so by more modern standards tis a bit slow and clunky, it has the latest firmware update but still. As an Internet it is sort of ok but can take a while to load pages. As a camera it is actually quite good ish for snaps. As a mp3 player the speaker is pants and even when plugged in to headphones is not that much better. As a phone all the rest of what it can do seems to get in the way of actually having any reception ie I can loose signal strength way before mates on the same network stood next to me. Also Google and Samsung apps wanting to read my email and text, don't like that at all. I do like that ee cap the bill amount and tell you when you get near. Though they could be easier to talk to to buy more services. Oh and I'm a bit of a magpie I like shiny new things. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

So why not get a more up to date android, and just don't allow the apps to read what you don't want them to? I've got an S4 (though will probably upgrade it for something else soon) and it's great. The only thing I didn't like about it was Samsung's interface/launcher, so I installed another. Such is the joy of android.

I know the magpie feeling too! I'm a sufferer too.

Diablo,

What launcher did you change to..? I'm not keen on the Samsung TouchWiz interface - preferred the HTC launcher/apps - but not really found a 3rd party one I like.

cheers

I dislike the majority of launchers, bar stock Android.

I have Nova launcher - it's great. You can change pretty much everything you can see/think of - and then some more. Can introduce a lot of useful gestures too.
