Somerset Levels- Anyone know what's going on(inc e petition)
Any latest updates? Seems many on here know more than what the news tell us, well the real issues anyway. Rolling Eyes
See quite a few tractors and trailers on the roads near here heading that way I'd have thought. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Interesting photo Steve from The Farmers Guardian where the only place dry appears to be the banks of the original river.

Odd that isn't it, probably the reason why water can't get back in now to drain away. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

By design the river banks are higher than the surrounding area. Hence all the pumping stations around the levels. Even in the summer you'd have to pump any water into the river to get rid of it. 110 D250 SE HT

Arguably, the Royal Navy would be of more use right now.

That is old news. Those Royal Engineers arrived there several weeks ago If I remember correctly.

Strange how it takes weeks for help to arrive in Somerset, but as soon as there is a hint of water rising in the Thames Valley,, the Army are mobilised and there is an unlimited budget announced. 110 D250 SE HT

Million pound houses owned by millionaires.......?
Not enough millionaires in Somerset.

Was thinking the same, buts thats not a MOD decision. The services are only mobilised if ordered by central govt or requested by local govt. MOD cant impose itself, even if it wants too. There is one exception under Military Aid to the Civil Community, where a local commander can task his unit, but only if there is a direct threat to life.

Quite a lot of very normal people having a pretty crappy time who live near the Thames. Not all millionaires

(Also we've got barracks at Windsor and Aldershot)

I was referring to the large number of millionaires (with riverside properties) rather than the whole population.
Not to mention all the very influencial rowing and boating clubs.
Their voices carry an awful lot of weight.
What chance does a Somerset farmer have?

I fully understand the procedure for MACC tasks, I had to brief senior officers at Warminster about when I was there.
But I do feel that he Thames Valley has had a bit of preferential treatment over this flooding. 110 D250 SE HT

It's only because central govt have got frightened now that it's tapping on their own doors.
If it wasn't for that I doubt they'd have given a monkeys, those cattle that were moved from the farm would have drowned as suggested if they didn't take action when they did.
The govt have now been caught out because they don't want to spend a penny yet they have to and to caption off they are worried about the next election.
You'll also notice Mr Osbourne has kept very quiet indeed through out. (Probably secretly ear bashing the PM for mentioning the unlimited funding through guilt)
Too late for the blame game but IMO the finger points to one thing, lack of funding, penny wise and pound foolish.
There are people out there living in poverty without flooding much less with.
I for one don't believe a word any of them say. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
